| Blown Break Light - No Warning from D3 System |
|
Hi All;
I got a text message from my mate this morning saying that the left brake light wasn't working, I thought it was a joke as I would expect the D3 to warn me of such event, unfortunately my mate was right and the D3 didn't let me know...
Is this right, do we have this feature on our D3? or perhaps the light bulb has blown after I switched the car on, and it only verifies at the begging of the journey?
Thanks

Hi Lucio
sadly we don't have a warning system for blown bulbs and blown brake lights seem a common occurence, lots of folks have replaced with LEDS which look better, react faster and last far far longer.

Both my brake lights were out a few days ago, it was only when my wife was reversing to hook up the boat that I realise she was braking and not trying to run me over. The thirs brake light was all that was working.
The only bulb warning I had in the past is the guy behind hooting as he almost drives up my rear.

That's what garage doors and reflections in windows are for, like to check mine when I have a coach or similar parked 25mm away from my rear screen on a stationary bit of motorway
Even my first Audi ten years ago used to tell me that a bulb had gone - nearly every week "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

LEDs last longer - judging by posts on here they don't last as long on occasion. Silver TDV6 S with sat nav, PTI and Moosed up a bit

My LED's have been in for 3 years, no problems. I saw a D3 in Wilmslow last week with just the high-level light working.
I tried to tell him at a roundabout but he ignored me Silver TDV6 HSE

the problem with the bulb failure systems are that they work based upon a change in the voltage, and caused more false readings than they were worth.

In my simplistic view, LEDs should last longer, as there is no moving parts on them, what I mean by that, on normal bulbs you have the "filament/coil" which is susceptible of movement and to vibration, where as on LED, they are not - different build.
I believe the main cause for LED failure is over supply of VDC (voltage).
I am leaning towards the LED very quickly, I had a look at ultraleds site and they are a bit expensive, I wish I knew about LEDs before last Monday, as the wife is in china at the present moment and returns Tuesday! and I only requested a PMR radio and a camera suction mount for the windscreen. 4x4 begginer - I need to learn a lot

I tried to warn a D3 with both brake lights out when I pulled along side it at the traffic lights a year or so ago... The female passenger gave me such a snooty look and didn't even wind down window to hear me... Must have thought I was some kind of crank

I've been advised and am following the advice of changing my lamps (bulbs to the non electrical) in pairs. Since I've been doing this I haven't had a problem. When I changed them one at a time I went round in cirlces changing one after another.
However I am interested in the LED option. I tried a set from halfords and although they illuminated, they also drove the cars 'brain' mental. It went into protective mode. Lowered the suspension and limited to 35mph.
naturally I changed them back it was a much happier beasty.
Anyone advise of good LED's and where to get them from?
