Very worrying. I'd be similarly unimpressed.
The most concerning part is that 99% of people would not be able to check in the way that you have, and would therefore drive on oblivious, until something far more catastrophic happens.
Just a thought, but, to give them the benefit of doubt, perhaps they tipped the car sideways to pour out a sample of diff oil ? D3 number 3: 08 TDV6 SE Stormygrey /owlpacker

I'd already seen it when he got there and he was acutely aware I'd seen the problem . He didn't offer an opinion, nor would I expect him to in his position. I was really impressed with his work on the starter motor, so I wasn't going to put him in an awkward position by pushing the point with him. wd40 has lubrication properties similar to spit. It's more than a bit awkward as Yeovil have offered some sterling work in the past and offer great discounts. Hell, I bought our Defender from them and get on really well with Nick (Parts Manager) and Kieron (Business Manager), but the service team have really dropped a hairy one here. wd40 has lubrication properties similar to spit. My symptoms are exactly the same as Simon's. Under load it is there, lift off it goes. It sounds as if it is coming from the front diff, could be the tranfer case.
I have reported it, the stealer changed the oil to see if that would correct the problem, it didn't.
So it will be back to the stealers at my next chance. 06 TDV6 SE with Extras

Other way round mate... under load its not there, lift off and it appears. Can only really be heard at high speed (60 plus) and is not that loud, but definitely there.

Based on their excellent reputation up to now, I have to be honest Al and say that I would not be doing my dirty washing here until they have had an opportunty to respond directly to you about the 'lying' allegation. Despite your findings, there is afterall every possibility that there may be a rational explanation. Powered by............................

Mine does this as well but at anything over about 40 - didn't notice at first, but it's now been getting worse week by week. Sounds like the diff whine old taxi's get. Paul
