DSL wrote:cw check your air filter as changing mine made a big dif (25 up tp 29 overnight after change). Worth a few pennies, well £15, spent with TLO, might be a good group buy from Nick@Yeovil.

Checked it tonight and it is absolutely filthy. There was even mud in the bottom of the air filter box, took it all out and cleaned it. I will need a new filter ASAP, so I think I will have to pick one up tomorrow.
I have a feeling it is the same one the car came with when it was built, even though it has been serviced twice. Should it not be changed at the second service ?

Just checked mine will get a new one on Monday
The cars only done 13600 miles and the filter is filthy, not to mention one corner of foam missing and a 6" tear on one side (again in the foam). Zambezi Silver TDV6 HSE, Privacy glass, Side steps and Maxxraxx 5 Bike carrier.

Filters are only scheduled to be changed at 45,000 mile intervals. When I get mine back tomorrow it will have a new filter. I'll report back on the MPG (and post a pic of a 45,000 and a new filter). I've asked Nick to put another filter by for me to collect with the car as I'll be changing the filter myself a lot sooner than 90,000 miles! wd40 has lubrication properties similar to spit. And what's good enough for the girls......

Also, it felt very lively. Far superior to my 06 model when that was "standard".
I can shatter that illusion for you
Mine (08MY) used to be capable of 36mpg / 700 mile theoretical range.
But then again so could my first one (05MY).
For about the last 2 months it's been flippin hard work trying to reach 30mpg on the computer, driving like a nun, rolling down hills etc. - something has definitely changed! D3 number 3: 08 TDV6 SE Stormygrey /owlpacker
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead now disintegrated - but its got a full service history!

Why the huge differencies in mpg???
We need answers?

We need to get to the bottom of this!
Wonder if our new site sponsor [Bell Autos] can shed some lght, as I beleive fuel consumption is one of their fortes?

According to the LR Servicing Schedule, it's definetely every 45000 miles or every 3 years whichever occurs soonest. Nonsense in my opinion as stated earlier.

So after my slightly off topic last post
Just filled up, absolutely rubbish consumption, both real and the trip accuracy!
Exact consumption (filled up at same pump, stopped when it cut out both fills) 27.27MPG. Trip spent a lot of time around 32MPG, only dropped to 30.something last few days as air-con has been on, never read below 30mpg.
Need to check filter for a start as suggested for possible cause of poor consumption, however, I am really disappointed the trip is over 3MPG out, I know they are often "optimistic" but I have never driven a car thats so inaccurate!
This was Esso fuel, what does everyone else use who is getting good consumption? I find my Alfa goes further on non-supermarket fuel, but perhaps Disco has other tastes?

So thats what the little numbers are below the big numbers
No wonder people overtake me when I am doing 70 of those on the motorway and I shout at them, calling them "looney speed freaks"

.......meant the recorded "mileage" reading (odometer) that on D2's could be switched over to K's (which you can't do on a UK D3).....it doesn't make for an easy accurate consumption calculation when distance has to be converted over if you want the litres/100k reading....& that's the one I (& many others who work in K's) prefer to use....& you've got to convert litres to galleons anyway.
...the accurate way to get true consumption is to keep brimming the tank & use distance recorded....the consumption value shown on the D3 "computer" display show an averaged value which isn't accurate. Some other vehicles (VW for one) have accurate consumption displays.
......this inaccurate D3 consumption "computer" can have its units switched to K's...its a pity the distance meter (K's or miles) cant.
p.s. Slimer I don't need reading glasses for D3 dashboard....just yet...but thanks for the concern anyway.
p.p.s. too busy to go back to Somalia this month. ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

Well setting the Trip computer to KM's will also change the Trip, Range, Fuel Consumption readings to KM's. You can use the Trip reading as an odo to work out all the numbers.
