well chaps, like most of you, I've always felt that the trip comp readings should be taken with a large pinch of salt, but a couple of weeks back (after fitting EGR blanking plates) I thought that the MPG sampling seemed to be happening more frequently, so for the first time in ages, tried a brim to brim MPG check, and got 26MPG, at which point the trip comp was showing 26.1, so pretty damn close. The longer you leave it without a reset, the further out it will get.

Spoke with the guys at Twisted Performance at Driffield today re mpg.
I'm going to get a K&N filter.
Don't know how much it'll effect mpg.
But, it'll give me a few extra horses on top of my JE tune

Well... I was not happy with 27MPG so did some investigation as suggested further up the thread.
It seems the rumours are true, this is NOT what I would expect to see on a car that was service 500 odd miles ago:
Will have to have a word with the dealer over the definition of "serviced" and see if I can get an air filter out of them, but I guess I will be putting my hand in my pocket like everyone else for a replacement between services

I've not reset mine since I got this D3, so it's showing my average over the last 11,000 miles, not that I ever look at it, just have the range showing and reset the trip whenever I fill up. The combined figure for these two does me fine as an 'economy meter'

what I meant by being further out is that your average is going to have been worked out over a much greater distance if the trip comp hasnt been reset, whereas a brim brim to spot check will give your MPG over the distance between fill ups, and the two are very likely going to be different.

I think it depends on how it calculates it, a lot of these things use a rolling record of readings, and when the memory is full the latest overwrites the oldest and so on. Depends if it has any sort of "history" function.

75% of my driving is motorway, i tend to sit about 75-80mph and I have never got more than 400 miles to a tank. The computer is usually telling me i am doing between 22 and 25 to the gallon. I have only ever once got over that when I sat on the mway at 65 to Scotland, then i managed to get 27.2.
I am going to try the Forte Advanced diesel treatment and a new air filter. I will keep you all posted. Fingers crossed.

My mpg has got better over the last few days???
been recently getting 26.5mpg - now getting 28mpg??
No change in fuel or driving style.
Wonder if it's the warmer UK weather over the last few days?
But' it's generally cooler air [if any] that improves mpg.

He did mention that he had a bit of a run on them. He is a great chap though taking all these orders and giving a good discount to the forum, it must be a pain in the backside packing up all those parcels at the same time as dealing with the normal customers.

Strange one that I've noticed an improvement of 1.5mpg over the last few days - coincidence maybe
Just filled up this evening Sainsburys 118p/ltr took 81 litres to fill to brim then got a total of £4.05 off as SWMBO had a receipt from the weekly shop making it 113p/ltr! Shell is 124/ltr cheapest locally so mpg would have to improve considerably with prices as they are now to make trading up worth it every fill up. It would have cost almost 9 quid more Over 3000 miles of trouble-free motoring......well almost

Yup, mines about 2mpg better the last few days. Seems to like heat. Still only 29.5 though (still driving with a feather light touch.
Another observation, mpg seems to improve lots about 250 miles into a journey. Seems the engine really likes being hot D3 number 3: 08 TDV6 SE Stormygrey /owlpacker
