windows and doors

Evening all,

I'm trying to modify the blanking plate on the back windows of my comm. disco.

First job is to get the power back in the rear doors so I can open the windows.

I need to remove the door panel to get to the connectors but I only seem to be able to pull the panel out so far as to pop the clips around the edge but it wont go anymore.

Now before I pull the bejasus out of it and wreck it are there any screws etc that I just cant see? There is a small round blanking plate behind the door handle but I dont want to scratch the panel trying to take this off if I dont have to.

Anyone taken this panel off? Whats involved?

Cheers Thumbs Up

This may help... form PCH some time ago. Applies to the front passenger door but I think the little blanking plate does indeed hide a screw.

Worth a closer inspection maybe ?

Hi Simon,

It just happens that I had to remove my passenger front door panel to access the botls holding the mirror on.

Okay there is nothing tricky about it you just need some patience.

1. Undo the 2 screws at the bottom which go through the drink holder.

2. Uncover the screw found behind the plastic cap where the lock lever is positioned and undo the screw.

3. The handle has 4 screws hidden which you must undo. Carefully push a flat blade screw driver into the 2 square holes found under the handle to let you lift the top part of the plastic cover off the handle. Be careful not to force it and then you will need to carefully unclip the catches holding the top of the plastic handle on. Undo the 4 screws.

4. Get yourself a wide flat blade screw driver and cover the blade with a rag and then gently work it between the door trim and the door. Start at the bottom until you get the hang of levering the trim to pop the plastic clips out of the door. Be gently with your levering. Work up both sides.

5. Pull the top of the tweeter housing to pop off the plastic stud found at the top of this housing. The plastic triangular housing is fixed to the door trim so don't try pulling it off !!!

6. Where the trim runs along the window pull the trim off the metal clips. Use a bit of force.

7. The cable running to the door lock can unclip from the lever attached to the door trim.

8. The window switch can be lifted out and unplugged with the trim in place.

9. Unplug all of the cables and the trim is ready to lift off.

Good Luck. Just be patient.

Chris

Received D cheers Thumbs Up

Thanks for that Simon

I manged to get the panel off eventually.

Thing was tho, whom ever did the conversion to my disco only put 3 screws back in so got it done in half the time Thud

Now the issue is I was hoping to find two plugs with that grey foam around them just waiting there to be re-connected but unfortunately there is only one Rolling Eyes

So I went to the drivers door and thought maybe I just have to reconnect it all at the switches there but again just one plug hanging around.

Plug is tiny, about 4mm square - black in colour. (The loom coming from it had black fabric tape all round it)

Anyone got any ideas?

Thumbs Up
