Had a landrover guy out two sundays ago because had a noise from brake a squeaking noise.
Hi jacked up the car and check and ajusted park brake all fine now
Took car out later on sunday and after driveing for about 2 hours and whole car started to vibrate badly pulled and throught flat tyer
Could not find any thing wrong
drive away again lost fault until day trip to france on bank hoilday monday and same fault again pulled over and the rear drivers side brake disc has gone red hot lots of smoke coming out from wheel
Called uk assistance who made me pull the brake cable in car and remove fuse for hand brake
Got car home ok and landrover sent out replacement car and took mine away for repair
Dealer phoned me and said car repaired come and pick in up .I said to the service dept did you change the disc because it was red hot and changed colour and the grey paint on the drum now has gone to an rusty red colour which i say has got very hot.
dealer said disc is fine.not happy with that phoned the landrover custumer line who said will phone the dealer
came back to me 24 hours later and said will take car out for 15 mile drive to check brakes.
Next day sorry brakes are fine will not change disc.
Been out to day and same fault is back noise from the hand brake a squeaking noise.
What do i do now and car has 18 months warranty left
Do i call out landrover to my house again or what and could it be the disc??????????

Oh dear. Have you seen the announcement at the top of this page?
Lots of Park Brake experiences on here. I have experienced the exact same faults as you. Use the search facility to find lots of info.
Basic advice is that the dealer will have difficulty in getting land Rover to authorise a warranty repair, as its considered (by Land Rover) as a service issue. Many on here have taken the issue up directly with Land Rover customer service.
I did not need a new disc after mine got very hot. Mine also screamed like a banshee when applied. My dealer has always fixed under warranty. IMO so should yours. Silver TDV6 HSE

Yep I agree - mine failed at 70mph and ruined totally the back braking system,LR replaced everything under warranty no dispute.
Keep pressure on you will get a result, many on this forum have!!!
Good luck

If the disc gets that hot won't it transfer to the pads and in turn boil the brake fluid or damage the seals in the caliper. After all the drum and disc are in contact with each other and the caliper so surely the heat transfers ?.

Of course if the brake drum+disk is glowing red hot, one could happen to drive into a water puddle. No doubt water splashing on such a hot brake would cause it to crack = broken disk+drum under warranty
I had a bit of a similar experience except it was in the outback and the rubber boots on the drive shaft was starting to smoke. Poured water on it and disk cracked in half, exposing a tangled web of melting and twisted parking brake parts (described in another thread - see photos as well). Jim Dowell

I had a similar squeaking on mine - only at slow speeds. Colliers of Erdington had it in and adjusted/cleaned the EPB. But the noise returned less than 24 hours later. Same noise, but this time it disappeared when I touched the foot brake. On advice from 90BHP , I reversed accross a car park in low range with the the brakes on - seems to have done the trick.
It's due for a service when I get home next month so I wll get them to have a very good look at the braking system. Sharks: Natures way of telling surfers to get a job

Mine does that now and again, if it does it will go after a longish run.
Interesting the idea of reversing with the the brake on, it that to clean the shoes up? Silver TDV6 S with sat nav, PTI and Moosed up a bit

Reversing with the brakes on is supposed to clean out any stones and grit from between the pads and disk. Sharks: Natures way of telling surfers to get a job
