Alarm activation gone silent

My D3's arming/locking and disarming/unlocking sound has disappeared. Of all the annoying warning sounds this is the one I actually like as it reassures the operator that the vehicle is actualy locked/armed. Hazards still do their flashing thing though.

The seatbelt warning is gone which is fine - still need to get rid of the key in ignition bong.

Deon.

I had this exact thing a few weeks ago, but with some other things i.e. an electrical ticking sound, like a relay going on and off rapidly, and the alarm malfunctioned, sounding whilst driving??! This all went away spontaneously. Dealers said all from their side was OK. The fact that the car still drove and was not immobilised meant that the problem was with the alarm sounder itself only. They said that this could only be sorted out by Tracker as their system is linked to the alarm. Radio Autosonic were supposed to check it out as they are the Tracker dealers, but I had to book my vehicle in and the problem had gone away so I just left it. It is fine now so I wonder if it wasn't due to water getting into the electrics or something of that nature?? Confused

Mine has never made a sound when locking/unlocking... other than the clunk of the doors actually locking. Is this just UK models?

The only time I get a sound when locking the car, is if one of the doors or the boot is slightly open. Then it is one quick 'pip' of the horn.

I also had this during my trip to Botswana last year - it sorted itself out once I got back in the country. I put it down to being out of the Netstar network (never wanting to blame the car, of course Whistle ). The arming pip is the Netstar dis/activating. In RSA all D3's come standard with Netstar and that's why we get the pip and other markets don't. Bodsy et al, Netstar is a satellite tracking company over here.

Deon, don't waste your time going to LR, rather go to Netstar direct and have them have a look at the problem.

I understand LR got rid of arm/disarm beeps for the UK ages ago.

If you lock the car with a BACK door open, it honks the horn. If you do nothing, it honks the horn 60 seconds later. And again (ad infinitum). Shutting the back door, everything is locked Very Happy . Should you have left your keys on the back seat....... Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Deon, sorry, I meant Netstar as correctly stated by Richard, and not Tracker.

In RSA we have 2 satellite tracking companies!!

The alarm sounder as fitted to the SA cars is in the spare wheel well (well at least mine is!)- you will need to remove the spare to be able to see it. If you have a long range tank you would probably not be able to get to it anymore. Its a little white jobbie. Mine also works sporadically, especially after wading in water - the unit is probably not very waterproof.

There is a thread somewhere on the forum that contains details of how to disconnect the alarm sounder and force the vehicle to use the horn when the alarm sounds, resulting in no "peep" when locking or unlocking the car - this is very good manners when in the bush, but whether it will bypass the netstar or not, I am unable to confirm.

I can, however, confirm that the Netstar works just fine regardless of whether the sounder is waterlogged or not. I had these awasome guys flying around me with rifles once when I set it off unawares Shocked - a good pub story

Baben - thanks, if mine is in the spare wheels well, then it has either been damaged after force fitting the new BFG spare - although it did still sound after the fitting, or after getting underbelly of D3 totally submerged in mud during our recent trip - more likely .

Deon.

Are those 18" GFG's? If they are, how do they look? Send us a pic. AFAIK your D3 is a V8 SE right? Same as mine, but I went the Grabber route to avoid the issue with rubbing. Do yours rub in the wheel arches?

No problem Andrew

Went back to TWT Cresta over the week-end as I picked up a lot of vibration on the steering after trip to Kgalagadi. They removed huge chuncks of mud from inside two wheels, but also re-did balancing and alignment. I still pick up very light vibration on steering at around 90 km/h, but not too concerned. Ride did seem a bit harder at first, but with pressure now at 2.1 for everyday use is fine.

All in all happy with the tyres - no rubbing/catching and looks lot better than the standard set.

Also visited local Altech/netstar dealer - they confirmed unit is operational (ie signal is picked up by control centre), but did confirm that bleeper packs up easy when wet or dirty. I will keep it this way, as is much more "camping friendly" as Baben mentioned.
