What I find more worrying is the fact there's a forum called 'Detailing World' A Silver G4... Best of both worlds!

looks great. The danger is that now you will reset your appreciation of what clean is and forever see the car as dirty.

Crikes...I never did it!!
Had it done professionaly at great expense
The reason I had it done is because it appears that I knackered the paintwork (IMHO) washing it normally with a bucket and sponge
Tyres and wheels are same as Ronp's. 295/45 Grabber UHP's Keeping it Claret and Blue

Looking Shiny
Our few week old (to us) black D3 has a lot of bad swirling, not sure what the previous owner washed it with (if they did wash it) but I need to get the polish out. Tempted to pay for proper job but can't quite bring myself to do it, when I could do it myself, get clean shiny car and a full workout...
To those that only wash every few months - if you get the paint clean and polished, its a lot less effort to clean, so cleaning every two weeks for example is not a lot of hassle, compared to one monster clean every few months, by which time the bird has welded itself on and the dirt is in the paintwork...

OK ...convinced.
Decided to ditch the Sponge and Chamois and purchase some detailing stuff and have a go myself.
On Order from here:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/about-us/info_1.html
Sheepskin Washmit
Microfibre Towel
Clay bar & Lube
Hopefully that'll do for a start ... unless there's something most important that I've left out.
[got the Autoglym kit inc shampoo + a black polish.]
All I need now is a free, warm, dullish, dry day ... is that asking too much! Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.

Hopefully you'd Clean first (two buckets, sheepskin mitt, or if feeling flush, some Traffic Film Remover mixed with Snow Foam and a Gilmour Snow gun (or karcher attachment) then clean. Dry off using microfibre cloths (no longer the Chamois leather...)
If you want to use a clay bar (don't forget the detailing lubricant) to get rid of the impurities in your paint, then now's the time to do it, don't use too aggressive a clay bar otherwise you'll need to get JKP to come and give it a 'proper' polish.
Polish where required or all over for an even coat.
(do you use that Turtle Wax black stuff....? )
Then there's great debate about whether you use something like the JetSeal109 (FANTASTIC STUFF but pricey) as a sealant before or after the final wax? Personally, I use Clean, Polish (where required) JetSeal109 (2 coats min, but 4 coats is ) then wax (two coats) over the top. The wax will breakdown over a relatively short period of time, so having the seal before the wax, should protect the paint more (IMO).
Takes forever to do this, but makes it MUCH easier to clean during the following months though.
EDIT Dod Juice Lime Prime is just a quick way of pre cleaning, but would remove your sealant if you've just put some one. It's kind of a mild abrasive polish. Personally I wouldn't use it if I'd just done the above. If you look at the pictures of my car being done, Bryan first polished out the swirling with something like a very VERY fine T-cut. DON'T use T-cut, it's too abrasive.
A good wash won't get the swirling out.
Clay bar will get the contaminants off the paint but the swirling will still remain. I'd pay to have this part done unless you're confident you won't take all the paint off your car.
He used an electric rotary thing with a circular pad on all over the car. This alone took about 5 hours.
He didn't wax the car as such, but used 2 coats of this (cover car, cure, buff, then aanother coat etc)
http://www.pro-detailing.co.uk/product.php?prod=22
Think this is called "paint correction"
When cured, the whole car was was buffed in literally 10 mins by hand to a very high class finish.
Once that was complete, to finish off he used a coat of this
http://www.pro-detailing.co.uk/product.php?prod=27
All the drying was done with a Duragloss drying towel which knocks spots off a standard chamois
http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/Products,74,toView_419.html
All the hand polishing was done with Microfibre cloths.
If you live in a hard water area like I do, then you'll suffer from water marks. One of these should do the trick
http://www.premierbodyshops.co.uk/aquagleam/aquagleamshop.htm
Prewash the really mucky bits of your car with a bog standard all purpose cleaner, Tesco "Daisy" is supposed to be good, at a ration of 4 : 1 with water via a pressure washer, then you can "foam" the car with a pressure washer and foaming lance, then hand wash using the two bucket method, then dry....
All in all, it took nearly 12 hours for him finish, working solidly all day without stopping for lunch.
To me, that's a whole weekend!! Keeping it Claret and Blue

Or there's 10 other ways of doing it eh Bodsy?
Seems the basics are the same. What products to use and their application seems to be a bit more of a personal thing Keeping it Claret and Blue
