by the way is the bracket ok for LHD too

we have the steering on the funny side here!!

Rolling with laughter

Ah, so, if you have a car with a wheel on the wrong side (there are only two sides right and wrong, the UK is right hand drive, everyone else is wrong hand drive) you would need the bracket the other way around Razz

UK people with the wheel (and hole for optima) on the right side of the car need a LHD battery bracket (stay with me here) as you want a bracket to fit the side where the battery WOULD be on a left hand drive car. This is YFJ500100.

European/Left hand drive people, have a hole for a battery on the left of your car, where the battery would be on a right hand drive car. So you need a RHD drive bracket which is I believe YFJ500110.

If you think about it, where the standard battery on an EU car is, is the bracket the UK people want (a LHD bracket), the hole on the EU cars is on the left, where a standard battery is for a UK car, so you need a RHD bracket.

Confusing isn't it.

As I understand it they are the same price.

Its not clear if the bolts are the same, but I think they are looking at a diagram that was sent to me during a debate of what side we needed Laughing

In terms of winching, you would be better of with a system that uses a standard dumb relay with a high current as I understand it, so more current can flow from the secondary battery to the primary when its under winch load. You also want some booster spec cable like 25mm^2 which is good for 170 or so amps, not the smaller stuff that the split charging kits have, which are designed for charging not for heavy loads.

However I don't own a winch, have never had a system with a winch, and you really should wait for someone to come along who can speak from experience rather than theory Laughing Laughing Laughing

yep follow the bracket discussion ... seemed logical if not as you say confusing!

yeah the battery cabling and charging using a winch was something that rings something in my head i am sure!

will need further investigation

but this is all good stuff and really i need this damm thing after flattening my battery using the fridge on a weekend camp

not the thing i want to do when I am in iceland later this year!

Big Cry

could be a long walk!!!!

OK, An update on the Traxide units & a summary of all the options so far....

Optima YellowTop Battery - £149
Bracket for Battery (inc bolts) - £3

(Will combine this to one option for £152)

Traxide SC40LR Plug & Play Kit - £85 The above kit enables split charging (two Batteries) and all cables required cut to length & joined/sealed to connectros. Self fit is limited to routing cable & connecting the relevant ends as per the simple instructions.

Traxide SC80LR Plug & Play Kit - £102
The above kit enables split charging (three Batteries (Aux +tintent/boot/trailer) and same cables as SC40 (but heavier duty) cut to length & joined/sealed to connectors. Self fit is limited to routing cable & connecting the relevant ends as per the simple instructions.
The Traxide kits do NOT come with the battery bracket to save postage & cost etc, but we have them available for £3 locally if you already have an additional battery, or it's combined with the Optima price already.
The above kits will only connect split charging from your main battery to the Aux battery. They do not have additional wiring for 12v sockets, third battery etc. For that, you will need to make your own, or use one of the ready prepared kits below.

Traxide Twin Power Socket Extension (LR-TPSE) - £56
The above kit enables two 12v sockets in the rear of the D3. All cables & instructions as above. (works with SC40 & SC80)

Traxide High Current Extension Kit (LR-HCE) - £62
The above kit enables an Anderson plug at the rear of the D3 for additional (3rd) Battery connection. Recommended only with the SC80LR

**NEW**
Traxide Full Power Cable Kit (LR-FPC) - £97 (saving £21)

The Full Power Cable Kit is brand new and a modified combination of both the TPSE and HCE kits but at a lower combined price. Recommended only with the SC80LR

All of the Traxide LR kits come with comprehensive D3 specific installation instruction containing loads of pictures to make any installation as easy and quick as possible.

The Traxide prices are based on ordering 3 or more main units (SC80/SC40) at a time, we can place multiple orders.

I'll update the signup above (somehow) to try to best show the options. Once you have re-confirmed your options, I'll advise you by PM on how payment should be made Thumbs Up

Select which main option you want & then post if you also want the TPSE, HCE or FPC

FYI, my personal option to order is :-
Battery + bracket £152
SC80LR £102 (little difference in price from SC40)
LR-FPC - £97 (Best of both worlds)

I'd like to order the first 3 sets ASAP to check if any customs issues /charges etc, so please sign up ASAP. Thumbs Up

If there is any money left over due to final exchange rate conversion etc, then it will be donated to the site.
Just to be clear I am not making any additional GROUP BUY donation to the site (other than any money left over). I may decide to make a personal donation once it's finished, but the onus is on individuals to decide how much & if they wish to make a donation. Please don't turn the post into a should I shouldn't I donate post, it's down to you, I have no opinion on if you should or shouldn't.
Also to be clear, I am not profiting from this, other than the same benefits that are available for all. I give my time free of charge to organise this and I expect nothing in return.
Any questions on that, please PM me.

Bodsy,

Good work. I would like the yellow top plus a bracket for a right hand drive D3. In addition I have opted for the SC80LR and the LR-FPC. As it happens, the same as you!

Hey Bodsy,

I am just in for battery & bracket as I intend to lower cost by making up cabling myself and not decided on the charge controller yet.

Just a note on the Anderson plugs in the kits, you will want to check what colour they are. The plugs are keyed by colour, technically according to the Anderson Power Products spec 12v is Yellow, 24v Red and 36v Grey (there are also colours for 48v-100something as well). Full details on the Anderson product page

A lot of places just sell red, and some places sell Grey and Red (the grey is discreet, the red is obvious) rather than using the assigned codes by voltage. Red seems to have become the norm and is the most commonly available.

I only mention it as if the kits have the "correct" shell in yellow, it might be hard to find a matching plug, I know as I originally bought a load of plugs in yellow and now can't seem to find anyone selling them Rolling Eyes

No rating difference, pins are the same internally, its just you can't plug yellow to red and so on, thought it worth mentioning. Its easy to change the shell as well, but assuming you all want to plug something in to your extension kits you will need a matching plug Wink

Ah just realised traxide site shows a GREY plug, and its a 50A not a 175A extension. I think grey 50A connectors are pretty easy to find... disregard remarks above!

EDIT:
Idea
Ok, bookmarks searched, I bought my connectors in the past from Torbury Connectors, they have grey 50A plugs with matching contacts for 6mm, 10mm and 16mm cable Thumbs Up

They also have yellow 175A's that I thought where hard to find now, so I must have been looking in the wrong place last time I wanted one!!!

(please try not to clean them out of Anderson's before I restock my garage Wink)

Just priced up the cables & connectors I'd need to do the cabling myself & I can't seem to do it cheaper than the Traxide options....... I have probably selected more cable than I need, but even so the ease of setup with the kit already provided has it in the bag for me Thumbs Up

If you have rolls of automotive cable around, and you have the knowledge Embarassed Embarassed of how to do it neatly, then fair play, I don't blame you Thumbs Up
And thansk for the link to the connectors Thumbs Up

PegLeg, the FPC instructions are being created as we speak (I did say it was a new option Wink ), so shipment out should be available from Monday. I'm not sure of shipping time to here, but I'll advise that when I confirm the payment process to you.

Ah, cool, grey should be easy to get.

Yeah sorry not saying kits are bad value, I am sure you could build form parts cheaper but you would need to buy from more than one place and hassle would outweigh the savings if there were any left after lots postage!

I used to always go for the easy fit kit route but I find after you come back to modify it later, you may as well have started with basic cables and fittings to start with, although maybe this is why I have storage bins with Anderson plugs, relays and small fuseboxes left over from the last job sitting around in the garage to start with Whistle

I am looking at the IBS Dual Battery System in case anyone wondered, as its based on a simply relay, but has some intelligent monitor to check battery voltages provide a low battery alarm and the like. As its based on a simple relay its also a good fallback as you can always dispense with the electronic gubbins if it packs in and just join batts with the relay in an emergency without too much hassle. Not sure if higher charging voltage on Disco will upset it, trying to find out...

Looks similar to DiscoDuncs setup. Too complicated for me Embarassed and £135 notes....

But I can see the benefit of being able to use the relay to jump start it. Thumbs Up
Question though, would a Jump lead pos crank to pos aux work as well or are there issues with doing that?

Unnecessary quote removed

Yeah I don't see any issues at all with using jumper leads, depending on the gauge of the drivesafe wiring though you may want to attach the neg as well as the positive.

Has anyone looked at possibly routes for a high power feed to the rear? I stuck D3 in off road height tonight and had a peek and it looks like there is good clearance along the chassis rail to get the cables attached and up out of the way.

Anyone got any ideas? Anyone done it before?
