Apart from Langdale Quest . . .

I'm spending Whitsun Week up in Yorkshire with my family and a few friends and their families again.

Each year all of us blokes have a "Lads Day Out". For the last couple of years we have been quadbiking in the Dalby Forest, but after wrapping an almost brand new quad bike around a tree a couple of years ago, I got the impression we were not really welcome last year. Although the owner was still happy to accept the two hundred and odd quid we handed over for a couple of hours entertainment.

Anyway, a couple of the guys who drive series two Disco's have said that they would like to try their hands at a bit of off roading for a change. So my question is simple: Apart from Langdale Quest, does anyone know of anywhere I can take these fairly inexperienced drivers for a bit of fun? I don't want to have to travel too far so I am looking for venues in the York, Scarborough or Whitby areas.

I did Langdale Quest in a Freelander about four years ago and although it was fun at the time I don't think it would pose the same kind of challenge to the RRS.

Not a great deal doing here.
Many routes now have closures.
Best bet is Langdale Quest, though I believe it's not great.
Get to one of the Tong days not so far away, if one is on when you're about.
Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.

Thanks for the reply Ronp, I've just been looking at the Parkwood 4X4 (Tong) link posted by CFB in the Events section.

That could be fun if the dates are available. Still not sure about Langdale Quest though.

Langdale Quest is OK for beginners but a bit dull for those looking for more of a challenge, also overpriced IMO.

There are no green lanes worth driving in this area, we tried earlier in the year and it was a waste of time. All the good lanes in the Yorkshire Dales have recently been closed for 5 years with TRO's Sad

Come to Tong on June the 8th if you can as it is our private event. Failing that we do run open days once a month and there are usually 1 or 2 from here who attend, I'm always on site for advice etc Thumbs Up

Disagree about Langdale Quest being a bit dull - have been there a few times and there are some serious hill climbs / descents, rock crawls etc. You definitely need a winch on some of the Extreme routes. The big drawback with that site is that a lot of the routes pass through the trees and there is a real danger of getting scratched. I did look at another site at Robin Hood's Bay a few years ago, although I didn't drive it. Don't know if it's still open but a search on Google might locate it. Access is off to the left as you drop down the hill into RHB - fairly near the top.

Thanks Harlequin. I've just googled Robin Hood's Bay and found this: http://www.nyoffroad.co.uk/index.html This looks like it could tick all of the boxes, nothing too challenging and non damaging, as some of the other drivers have never been off road before. The scenery looks pretty impressive too.

Price list says £25 per vehicle pay and play, so I might give this place a go if it is open.

That's the site Thumbs Up I only had a walk around the top end when I was there - intended going back but never did. As you say, the scenery is very impressive - magnificent views from the cliff tops. Let me know what you think after you've been. It's not far from here and I might just find an excuse to go and play!!
