not too much damage to the wheel then (hope theres not heat marks once you've cleaned the crap off). Was it just the nut they burnt off, or did the stud cop it as well?

Just the nut Al . I should have asked them for it in order to post pic. I think Discowex has the other one we removed so hopefully he can post pic to show what happens these nuts if tampered with. Googsy

Googs , I put the damaged nut ,with the swivelling top half, into the well of the 19 " you had in the back.
Basically the top half of the nut is designed to seperate from the lower half of the nuthead which leaves it free to swivel.Consequently the grooves then misalign stopping the gypsy robbing your boots from going any further.
You or your tyre monkeys probably over tightened the nuts causing them to shear.Even drilling the nuts out would have been a bollix to do cos the top half of the nut would spin on the other half
