Quote:Nice track found ............
On my way down from Willies neck of the woods yesterday the Sat Nav took me on a little bit of it's own expedition , didnt mind as I wasn't under any pressure.Good thing is that it took me up into the Sleve Bloom mountains.Took me past an ungated track where they were felling. As part of Coilltes Open Woods policy they unlock the gates when felling , block off certain routes and post warning signs.
Anyway I ventured in as far as time allowed for about 10 klms before turning round. There looked to be plenty of track left for as far as I could literally see.On my way down the mountain I spotted another with equally impressive routes.I'll contact Coillte and see what their parameters are as regrds taking vehicles in and get back to you all.It may be worth a recce by a few of us in the near future. Any volunteers ?
Just thought I'd start a new thread regarding the above................
Bad News :After a fair fiew phonecalls it turns out the answer is no.Licences are granted to a chosen few. This is all carried out in conjunction and with the blessing of our wildlife groups because of breeding , nesting , mating periods etc of our native species .
Good News: The gentleman I spoke to in Coillte did give me the name of a guy who has the licence for the area and who runs trips, events and "How to" days out in the area above.Ill be in contact with him as soon as possible and see if he's willing to take us out.I'll try and see if its possible to accomodate Matty ( Disconutter) whist he's over.Ill update as I receive
Might be a help if you indicated when it would be most suitable to you. Then I could suggest dates to this guy and see if its acceptable
Note : This is open , as always , to anyone from overseas also
Edit - Meet has now been set up for Sunday 20 th July 08.Meeting in Clonaslee village , Co Laois.Cost is 100 euro per vehicle. Please bring Bow Shackle for front and back of your vehicle.A decent tow rope.Make sure your spare is in good nick.Food & Refreshments.Waterproof Clothing , just in case Don't take life too seriously ..... it's not permanent

Nice one DW. Looks like a good trip - be great if it fits in with my dates either side of the 19th July - no worries if not. I also have my sister-in-law in Rathvilly making some enquires, she says she's sure there is something near them. I'll keep you posted as that develops. Powered by............................

Made contact with Ivor Clegg ( Wheelbase) and asked-for a provisional date of July 20 th.
New regulations now mean that Parks & Wildlife have the deciding vote as to who does what and when.Ivor is running a small outing this Sunday to test the waters and see what P & W say. He'll update as it progresses. So watch this space Maybe Matties sis might come up with a plan B. I'll presume Sunday 20th or Monday 21st for now and will book the ferry for the morning of the 22nd. Powered by............................

Should have mentioned this earlier; but I'm happy to do a bit of D3 Couriering if you guys need any bits from TLO or visavera. We won't be bringing the muts and so the unless SWMBO decides to pack the kitchen sink we should have some space in the boot this time. Powered by............................

Spoke at length with IC a wee while ago.The test run on the 25th last ( same day as we were in BallyH) went well. They took out four vehicles and so far no negative feedback from F & W.He has put in another application for mid June to see what comes of that.He will be phoning F & W over the next few days to see at what stage the mid June application is at and in tandem will lodge an application for ourselves for Sunday July 20 th.At this stage it's a softly softly approach with F & W so Im letting him give me updates rather than push the issue. So all I can say for now is that the application will be in and we'll see from there.Failing that I think we should all meet up somehwhere in the midlands and arrange an overnighter with a recce about the place , something like that ? Just in case F & W say feck off.BTW IC advised a fee of €100 , pricey I know , but beggars can't be choosers.Let me know.I'll feed you any info as I receive Don't take life too seriously ..... it's not permanent
