Winter Tyres/ All Season - Driving in Europe in December!

Hi Guys,

I have HSE 255/55/19 with P Scorpion Standard fit. They are beginning to get pretty worn now after 20K miles so I will need to replace them soon.

In December I will be driving to Slovakia at Christmas through Germany, Austria and Slovakia. Questions are:

1) Will I definitively need to have Winter Tyres or All Season Tyres
2) What are All Season Tyres anyway!
3) At some point was going to replace my tyres with either Michelin Syncrones or same again Scorpions -are these ok or any other suggestions?

What would you suggest - I don't really do any off road.

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary

I make the pilgrimage to the Czech Republic most Christmas's and now run Vredestein Winter 4 Extremes as my winter tyre, my old tyres were hardly worn and I therefore went down the spare set of rims and have 2 sets of route.

That said I kept the winter tyres on until March as they were so much better in the rain and the cold. A mate of mine was so impressed with them he runs them all year round and is very happy.

So in answer to your questions.

1. The Autobahn rules, as I am led to believe them, are you need Winter tyres from Oct 1st to March 31st, all season tyres will not do if you have an accident. True winter tyres are identidiable by a mountain with a snowflake on them.

2. Censored If I Know, but I think it is a way of appeasing the HSE

3. I gues I have answered that one!

Cheers
