Hi
I'm looking to kit a Kenwood 2DIN unit into the factory location in my D3. In the UK, Kenwood supply a fitting kit & fascia surround to suit,
http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/techn...ting_kits/
Since I'm based in Australia these don't seem to be supported locally. Can someone in the UK advise of a reseller or online agent for Kenwood where I could source? Has anyone used one of these kits?
Cheers
Justin

Go to www.newministuff.com if you haven't found anyone else. He is a Kenwood Dealer.
Email the owner, Mikey. His contact info his on the site.
Tell him that a Mini owner sent you to him. I know he routinely sends stuff to those of us with Minis in the U.S. So he'd probably be able to get the part and send it to you in Brisbane.

I'd like to see a pic of that kit fitted to a D3 if anyone has one. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Can you actually change the standard radio for a double din Kenwood?
I thought that you couldn't for various reasons I probably wouldn't understand

Not the easiest job from what I hear but you can replace the system.
I've been looking at the possibilities of this A/V controller system http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...amp;tp=119
It looks like you can set it up to use the factory head unit as an auxiliary source. It would be a nice setup without having to tear in to the dash. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

If you remove the standard radio you loose the function of the LCD screen settings ( if you have them ) ..may been some other features as it uses the clock from the radio.
Another member fitted an aftermarket unit but relocated the original stereo so to keep the functions working ..i will see if i can find it JAVA BLACK SE , MANUAL , PRIVACY GLASS , EBONY LEATHER , COLOUR CODED PARTS , SIDE PROTECTION TUBES , HIDDEN WINCH (12000 LBS) , 19" HSE WHEELS.

I know of a few D3 owners in Spain that have removed their base model stereos and replaced them with Kenwood/Pioneer 2-Din units.
They had to make up some type of moulding (or at least some side panels) to blend it in (I suppose they didn't know about the Kenwood fitting kit mentioned here).
As far as I know, there were no side effects although it's probable that they didn't have the settings menu that Wiggs is talking about.
The hi-line stereo is a bigger pain in the arse because there are no speaker connections at the back of the unit (the audio is sent via MOST to the amplifier under one of the seats), but with the base stereo it's almost a straight swap using the appropriate adaptors and a small amount of soldering/wiring.
BTW....The base model (CD-400?) is standard here on all S models and was also standard on the SE until MY08 I think.
I hope this helps 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I'm looking for a supplier too. Let us know when you find how to get them. Getting there is half the fun

Hmm, Kenwood UK emailed these pics, but they are of an FL2. They have the same part number listed for D3, FL2, & RRS. Not really sure what to make of it.

I think the arrows are pointing to the wrong spot.
The black surround which replaces the stereo and has the kenwood unit in the middle should be the facia plate.
Some wsted space either side but you could put switces and sockets there. Getting there is half the fun

That's true Caver, and maybe if it were painted to the original grey-ish color it'd blend in more. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?
