How stupid am I?
I spent ages trying to copy the look of that iconic D3 shot, the one used at the top of each page on this forum. It's such a sharp image which displays the graphic style of the D3 perfectly. I know it originates from the Land Rover PR dept, but it's perfection amazed me.
Until i found the company that made it... I never realised that so much in the way of car photography now is completely computer generated. And I don't just mean photoshopped. The vehicle doesn't exist... Never has... nobody took the photo! How disappointing to find out that most of the LR shots of the D3 came from a keyboard. I must have been the last one to find out.
Still the good news is seeing what an improvement the same company can make to an ugly Porsche... it's almost art!

I agree CGI has a lot to answer for.
There are still good automotive photographers out there. I have a mate in the graphic design trade and he uses this guy http://www.chrisbaileyphoto.com/ who takes a mean photo. Even then the touching up done after beggars belief.
What really annoys me is the clearly CGI'd mud some manufacturers use in their promotional materials when I'm sure most of us would happily, and in some cases expertly, apply the real thing 2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony
