Hey Tony,
First off - thanks for posting the above information - good work!
For the "Freelander 2 Mar 07 > CT24LR02" - does it include the double din cage and other hardware? Wondering if it was just the fascia. That would explain why it is only 17 quid instead of 45.
Cheers,
Rob

It looked like just the single din opening with a cubby below.
But it looked like the cubby will come out so you will still need a cage for a double din, but mosy units come with a cage for them and i think the Kenwood one does not have the hardware for connecting either.
Awaiting Tony's pics.
Tony, when you can open a pic in your gallery click on the bottom code below the photo and paste it into the message, it should then display the photo in the message body. Getting there is half the fun

The pics are still waiting on admin to do their bit? How long does this take?
The face plate is just that, no cage or other fittings, but the head units should come with the bits...the standard unit is only held by it's intergrated face and supported at the back by the side pins. Can't imagine it too dificult to make up a couple of brackets or support straps if required.

I would try again, you need to crate a gallery and name the albums and place them there when you upload. Did you create the gallery first or did you upload to the public one? Getting there is half the fun

Haven't heard back from UK contact sent e-mail and tried to ring.... not looking hopeful. But the Freelander one may do the trick for less. Getting there is half the fun

OK here we go...harness, aerial adapter and face plate.
Little luck talking with Kenwood Aus. regarding steering control adaptability, but will get the head unit anyway (birthday coming up) and work it out from there. From what I can gather from the web, the blue tail (which matches up with one of the remote wires on the LR loom should feed the adapter mentioned earlier...PC99-KEN from Nexxia.

Contact won't answer e-mails and won't take my call. So I think we can give up.

If the double din cage will fit the freelander one it is a better price than the other anyway. Otherwise if a double din is important then a group buy may be need as the double din unit is pricey. Getting there is half the fun

The nexxia item is a double din hole, with a cubby if you wish to go single din. However, the cage won't push through from the front, and therefore is difficult to pin.(in other words, the cage and face plate will not, that I can see, mate to form a firm 3d fixture). I am in a fortunate position to also order the genuine kenwood item frioom justkenwood.co.uk so will compare bits when it gets here.
Note the 2006 on Freelander and disco 3 face plates are the same part, as both use the same factory head units.
I bough this...
http://www.ryda.com.au/Kenwood-DDX-8639-In...dx8639.htm
The wiring adapter will need to be spliced into, as the head unit uses a 22 pin feed...but that was expected, all I really wanted from the adapter was ease of connection.

With the freelander one you could do a single head unit and a UHF/CB in the other single din leaving space for switches for lights/fuel tank/accessories and plugs for aux in or card reader or USB etc. in the blank spaces to the left and right.
This idea is growing on me. I would like to keep the screen at the top as it is at eye level easier to use. Getting there is half the fun

Having had a close look at the double din unit again and compared to the freelander one the edge bars on the freelander one are too fat and the opening would not fit a double din without modification. I think you would need to cut out the centre and attach a double din cage to the back for it to work.
wopac5, could you take a photo of the back of the unit please. Also is the steering wheel control meadunit manufacturer specific or will the same one work for all manufacturers? If so which one? Getting there is half the fun
