Getting water in the Transmission Control Module stops the vehicle. I took mine out and sprayed the edges of the case with CRC Plasticote. I also noticed two gaps in the case at the back of the plastic connector housing which might let water in. The main problem is that the connectors and pins and around the wires are open to the environment. I put silicon into the connectors where the wires come in at the back, taped each connector with self binding tape and then that tape around the connectors and receptacle. The Engine Control Module has silicon in the plugs and rubber seals as well. Why did they leave the TCM vulnerable. One workshop told me they had one where a small amount of water got in and corroded the contacts over a period of time.

Garry - coupla questions...
* Just where abouts is the TCM? * Does it need to be removed to provide your suggested method of protection? * Do you think that sealing it might cause other problems?

Leigh,
You have to take the battery out and it is in a black plastic box on the firewall. The covers unclip at the sides and the TCM is held in by plastic fingers either side of the connector block. You have to remove it to seal the edges. I'm assuming that as the connectors and socket on the TCM are open to the elements then the gaps around the edges etc would not be sealed. There are too many people that have had their car die because of water in the TCM to not try something. I'll let you know if I have to do any deeper water crossings. regards S White, TdV6, air suspension, 110ltr Long Range tank, Kaymar wheel carrier, aux. battery, adjustable cargo barrier, LR snorkel(waterproofed), reversing and front camera, Cooper tyres and tyre sensors, Codan NGT. I thought the problems were caused by people hosing/pressure spraying into the engine bay and not due to water crossings.
got the dvd too Garry.

I did get some fault codes in deep water but not sure if it was the TCM. I didn't remove it to seal it just sprayed the crap out of the whole area with plasticote. Getting there is half the fun

Sorry to be pedantic, but that thingy's probably the Four Wheel Drive Control Module.
The TCM is underneath and is part of the transmission valve block. You have to remove the transmission fluid pan to get to it.
But good point nevertheless. I shall seal mine once I've sorted out my fuel gauge sensors. Have a nice day!

Have a look at these posts.

I made my assumption about the location of the 'TCM' from these. Whatever the module, this one needs waterproofing. Spoke to Triumph/rover Spares and they were the ones who told me about water and corroded connections on that module. The plastic box around that module and the ECM is NOT water tight S White, TdV6, air suspension, 110ltr Long Range tank, Kaymar wheel carrier, aux. battery, adjustable cargo barrier, LR snorkel(waterproofed), reversing and front camera, Cooper tyres and tyre sensors, Codan NGT. Whatever that box is, I had corrosion in mine causing "Special Programs Not Available" and "Range Change unavailable" with signs of water spots in and around the module. I've never waded and never jetwashed in the engine bay of this car, so in my case this must have been from surface spray on normal tarmac roads.
Looks like a sensible mod; thanks. Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

It is the Four Wheel Drive Module. I checked the GTR. You can see from Caver's pics that it has 'integrated transfer case' written on it.
Sorry to be a bit OCD, but when you're out of warranty like me you need to make sure you get the name right when ordering a spare one if it goes or to carry as a spare. Have a nice day!
