I saw a thread in the general section about a V8 in the UK with a gas conversion, and just wondered if anyone here has, or knows of, a conversion for the V6?
It's now at the point where this would halve the running costs round town, and with the $3k rebate pay for itself quite quickly, I would think. - Jeff K -

Never ever convert LPG. I just trade in my pajero for the diesel discovery 3. The main reason why i traded the pajero is that the LPG fitted is not reliable.
I live up the Hill and one day i drive down and the LPG suddenly malfunction causing the engine to shut down. Which i lost the brake and my steering wheels is extremely stiff. I nearly die because i was going downhill. Try to think when u drive down hill without a brake and steering is stiff.
The next day i took the car back to the LPG centre and they told me that one of the gas pipe is blocked. WTF. That nearly took my life. LPG need very regular service.
My advise is that never convert to gas. It will danger ur life and the car.
The only Positive is that run by LPG is cheaper.
My pajero can run 300km on full tank LPG cost $35.00 whereas the 2.7 diesel disco3 run 650km on $140 full tank.

Not bothered working it out in detail, as there's no point until I know it can be done!
However, here in Perth 95 unleaded is running around $1.55-$1.65 whereas gas is 70-75c/l. So, on fuel costs alone you're less than 50%, and I'm assuming these days you don't lose much power or economy, and even at 10% you're still around half the fuel cost per litre.
With our $2k federal and $1k state rebates, and assuming petrol LPG conversions are in the same ballpark as the $4-4.5k I've just paid to have my diesel Defender done, you've only got to save $1-1.5k to break even.
A quik bit of maths (which I haven't checked) shows I'd save 14c/km (Based on petrol at $1.60 and an average of 16l/100k, and LPG at 70c/l and just over 10% loss in economy to 18l/100k) which means in the 25k I do a year, I'd save $3k. I'm looking at this thinking I must have missed something obvious, or my maths or logic is screwed, but if others agree, then I'm thinking why wouldn't I? 
In the first year alone, I'd recoup the conversion cost and have enough left to pay for a new rear wheel carrier so the gas tank could go where the spare is now.... - Jeff K -

Has anybody heard of using LPG with a diesel engine? Apparently a small amount is injected into the air inlet of the engine with a big drop in diesel consumption...

Jdea - yes, IIRC there is a shop which does this. It increases power output, economy, and you get part of the conversion cost refunded from government, but on the downside - voids warranty. That's where I stopped looking into it.

Yes, I have this on my old Defender. On mine it makes quite a difference to power and pick up but it's too early for me to draw any conclusions on economy, as I've only just had it done.
Don't know of any D3's with it fitted. - Jeff K -

I just got a ball park quote back from Hunter Gas Technologies to do LPG thing on my disco... $4665. Is it $2000 we get back form Mr Rudd?

This is what I'd want to do, hence desperately trying to find an installer to talk to about it! For city driving, even a twice a week fill is no big deal for half the fuel costs.... - Jeff K -

Your maths is Ok except I would argue that a 10% drop in power does does represent an increase in fuel consumption of 10%. LPG has a lower energy value, so you need more of it to do the same work compared with petrol. I think you'll find that it's more like 15-25% more fuel for the same distance... What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!
