Some friends of my wife, currently been in Canada for the last 20 odd years, can't wait to move back to the UK. She moved to Canada when she was about 16, got married and had three kids.
Canada is great for the open spaces, but they want to move back to the UK because of the increasing prices, the increasing nanny state (they are advised what temperature to set the air conditioning at every day on the radio ) and the fact that if they want to buy anything they have to drive at least 20 kms to the nearest largest town - and they don't live in the country, they live in Winnipeg.

I lived in the South of France for 3 years. There were lots of up sides and an equal number of down sides. Did I miss the UK? No. Do I miss France now I am back in the U.K.? No.
As they say, a change is as good as a rest.

Oz is good for a holiday, but it's turned into a real nanny state - I really got the feeling that politicians there think that people are too stupid to think for themselves. The state obsession with MY health and safety drove me away. Even the UK and most of Europe is better in this respect, believe it or not!
East and Southern Africa is the place for me, despite the occasional political turmoil. You can do what you want how you want.

recent imports from your country are so surprised you dont need an armed gaurd to take your kids to school and have them locked up and cannot believe the front page on our local rag is about a lost dog and not an axe murder. your quite welcome to your loaded handguns under your pillows and your six foot high fences with laser alarm systems, Ill keep this nanny state anyday

If it wasn't fr the kids, Clare and I would be off to France (Somewhere near Limoge) like a shot.
Find a nice lake/river, set up the laptop with mobile broadband and hey presto.
Unfortunately, the sprogs still live with thier Mum and her intended so if I want to see the little fella's then I'm going nowhere. Mind you, the the ex up sticks and moves up to Sheffield with littleuns then I might as well be in sodding France as bang goes my alternate weekends!! Keeping it Claret and Blue

TLO is in Somerset
Although when we get him over the border on Tuesday evening we're going to try and prevent him returning.
Me? Similar to BigCarpChaser. If it weren't for Little Miss Do$h living with her mum, Stella and I would be in France now. No regrets though, I'd rather have time with my daughter and put up with the crap in this country Going, going...... Gone!

I personally would never consider emigrating, regardless of the current political/crime/devolution bolux, I still remain passionately British and consider where I was born and bred to be my home and running off to a different country, unless a huge and life changing opportunity presents itself, would be quite alien to me. Having said all that of course if money was no object then the menu would have to be several holiday homes about the world that you could spend a few weeks a year in global warming my ars...!!!

DG;
Perhaps you should go in the opposite way than I did, migrate to Brazil - to Sao Paulo city.
Cheap food, hot birds, cheap fuel - the diesel is R$1.87/Litre, or (3.5:1) £0.54, it will cost you £1500 to ship a 20 sq foot container.
Buy yourself a farm, and get few cows going...
Imagine living on a country that is 5 times world chapiom in football!
Imagine you dancing in the carnival, drinking cold beer by copacabana beach.
Imagine green laning without worring about if you are or aren't in the lane...
No congestion charge, PAYE is only 27%..
Humm i might go back myself, it sounds good....
What am i doing here?
Regards
