Hello,
We are loking for another Discovery. It's got to be an SE or a HSE and it must have a towbar. We have looked at the HSE's and they all seem to have the detachable bar which we like. The SE's we have looked at didn't have a towbar but had a red plastic plug in the rear cross member.
1st Will the detachable towbar be ok to pull 3500kg?
2nd Whats the red plastic plug thing for on the SE's?
Many Thanks,
Clare.

all d3s have the red plastic plug. its to stop the whole where the towbar goes getting full of mud when its not on. the towbar is an option on all d3s. they cost a couple of hundred of ebay and then £75 for the electrics. I take it that's why you didn't contact me back about my car. the towbar is for any d3 its just not every one has bought one. D3 V8 SE AUTO

The red plug is a blanking plate, take it out to fit the towbar. The removable bar will tow up to the limit of the vehicle, 3500kg. This is 110 % of gross vehicle weight...The car is up to it, but it needs treating with respect. ( i just retrieved a chap towing a boat too heavy for his car...it pushed his Renault into the marina)

Thanks for the replies Gents.
Scoobystiv8. Thanks for your pm with your phone number.I havn't called because we are undecided about which Discovery to go for. Yours is at a good price and it is on our shortlist. There are also a few V8 HSE's on Autotrader with low miles and rear dvd etc for £18995 to it's a tough choice.
Thanks,
Clare.

Hi Clarabella,
The removable towbar is a great piece of kit. It comes standard on all disco 3's delivered in Australia. It is good for 3,500kg and 350kg towball load.
It is easy to insert and remove and when inserted it can be locked into place with the key that comes with it. Just remember to keep a key on your keyring otherwise you may not be able to remove the tow hitch if you neeed to.
What will you be towing? keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
