This is a good one...
Rob Prince says...
Emm.... very interesting. I raced round donington last month and I just fail to see how the track could cope with f1. In an already relatively dull spectator sport I just fail to see where the overtaking manouvers are going to take place. I have a sneaky feeling this is much less to do with the thrills and spills of motor racing and more to do with cash , cash and more cash. Feeling quite ambivalent about it then Bodsy? Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I have also done a lap of Donington and its not a patch on Silverstone - and neither of them are a patch on Brands Hatch - which is easily the best of three - very sad that F1 will never go back there Steve N | 2006 TDV6 S Auto in Buckingham Blue | Member of the top ten club | Am I online?

Brands Hatch is a nice circuit but too damn far away for most of the UK population.
At least Donnie is reasonably central. Silverstone wasn't bad from that respect - not far from the locus of the UK population.
Donnington are going to have to invest zillions to get their facilities up to scratch though. As it's only 15 miles away I'm all for it

And then some. I gave up going to watch 500gp / Moto gp cos even on two wheels it takes 2hrs to get out the place. Silverstone has it's faults, but IMHO it is the best of a bad job.

every year Ecclestone plays the same game taunting the BRDC !
I bet it stays at Silverstone, he's just holding them to ransom again "its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

What about this comment for losing the plot?
"I believe that the government should have supported them which would have cost probably less than .002% of the government's commitment for the Olympic Games."
A sport that is worth billions, pays their drivers millions? jeeez!
Why the hell should the government pay money to have a private event hosted at a private venue?

Hmmm, so a few thousand more can easily get to see the racing at the venue, but the venue isn't a patch on Brands Hatch for the racing. Most people view on the tv and couldn't give a shirt about how easy it is to get to, just about how much of a spectacle the race is. As an "on site" viewer, you may get to see perhaps 1/10th of the circuit at the best vantage point if you're lucky? The tv viewer gets to see the best racing all over the circuit (or will once James Allen and his ITV bumchums are kicked out next year).
So I respectfully suggest that Donnington is an effing awful choice. Going, going...... Gone!

Rumours at Silverstone were that Bernie is part of the consortium that has just bought Donnington. Slight conflict of interest I think Eveyone I spoke to that is familiar with Donnington said it is like Silverstone was 10 years ago and would need a huge amount of work in <24 months to get it up to scratch. Access is worse that Silverstone as when the traffic backs up it stops the M1.
Another suggestion was that if Donnington doesn't come up to the standard, it will be the excuse Bernie has been looking for to scub a British GP altogether
On the plus point, Donnington is 65 miles nearer home for me. I'm knackered having left Silverstone at 05:20 this morning after spending since Thursday as part of the Scrutineering Team
Did you know that the Pit Lane speed is measured using a standard hand-held radar gun? I was operating it during Qualifying on Saturday Lewis Hamilton was doing over 260kph coming out of Woodcote onto the start/finish straight (and the track width away from me) Renny Thomson
