Luxury barge + Defender 90 =
Getting a cheap car just to keep your G4 for weekends means that you'll be suffering (or just not as happy as you could be) all week. A barely-gets-enough-use G4 parked at home is not worth suffering 35k miles a year IMHO.

OK so general view is keep it, and get a cheap car for the week. Sounds good in principle, but I need to assess whether I can get the right kit on a cheap eurobox, as the D3 has now spoiled me (I like electric everything, satnav, HK audio etc ).
The other thing is whether the outstanding finance on it is worth it if I only run it every other weekend
Getting a valuation done on it, but I may just keep it for the first year and rack up the miles and save the car allowance, and then go for a new D3/RRS after that, but private lease - then at least I can get it muddy and I don't care what the boss says Monday!!!
Decisions, decisions....... Craig

Craig, I think you're on the lines to the right choice of keeping it & using it. TDV6 HSE Black, Black Wheels /MTR's(in the shed!), Black RRS front/rear LR badge (tbf) Black Leather, Black Glass, Black TowB, Shiny Tasmods, Dull Mantec, White (& Orange) Reflective D3 Sticker, Black steering wheel badge, black air intake. Need black RRS wheel centre caps.

Do exactlty as Rob says - and add this option to the poll!!!
I converted a car around 5 years ago and it paid for itself within 10 months.
That way you'll get to experience all the luxuries of the G4 whilst still wearing your
AND, you'll reap the benefit when you come to sell, cos it'll be a more attractive proposition over a standard G4 cos of the economy.
this is a pic of a LPG converted G4 I took at the Driffield show.

Current plan is option 2, waiting from a load of quotes from the leasing company before I narrow down the choice, but it looks like it is going to be between things such as Focus CC, Astra TT, MX5, Mini Cooper....
Any other suggestions? Craig

Lease for a Ghia/Titanium probably too much, and I don't need the space during the week. I am considering a 3 dr focus as well as the CC - new Fiesta may well have been an option but not available in time.
Because I don't need the space, I seriously looked at Smarts, 107/C1/Aygo's etc, but I don't fancy doing 30k miles a year in them, would end up driving the D3 most days. Craig

AHHHHHHHH! just got the car list through all VW, plus MB and bigger BMW's and Renault (????) and Hybrids from honda and Toyota - seems to be a no convertible policy as well.
So now stuck with A3, Golf, Fabia, Merc CLC, Megane or Leon, (but strangley no 1-series or any MB smaller than a C-Class?) unless I can get some other arrangement - none were on my list originally.
No Ford/Vauxhall/Nissan etc.
And Scirocco isn't on there yet Craig

CLC would probably be the most comfortable (which is what matters in your case IMO).
But this would be the most fun:

Oh well after all the angst and poring over specifications on the web into the small hours, the decision has actually become quite simple.
The new job is at a senior level with a very generous car allowance. Their rules are that I can trade up 1 group at my own cost, or down 1 group and get £100 cash back. I am not allowed to trade down any further and get a cheaper car, even though they will not give me any more cashback. The reality is they are probably expecting me to take an A6/5 series/e-class, and don't understand I might want somthing different.
They also restrict the list to VAG, MB, BMW, Renault or the Hybrids, no convertibles, no 4 wheel drives (not even softroaders) and then to top it all emissions must be less than 190g/km and Combined Cyle MPG official figure of more than 38mpg.
Given all those rules, the cheapest car I am allowed is a Diesel mid spec golf. When doing the sums it really becomes a no brainer and the likley choice is.......
a Prius
The 10% BIK tax rate just makes it so cheap
So apologies to Blue Meanie and all others I dissed earlier, it appears I may well be in the unique positions (at least for this forum) of driving a car that will destroy the planet and driving one that might save it - I think we might have a new poll to see which one you think is which Craig
