Whilst cleaning dead flies etc from the radiator, I noticed quite a few "dings" on it probably caused by small stones, bees etc hitting it. So decided to fit some aluminium mesh to prevent any more damage. More pictures in my gallery. All pictures in gallery as I cant figure out how to add to post.

been looking at putting some mesh in for a while and that looks the way to go .
is yours removeable as the bugs can get a bit thick sometimes and the one I have on my other car is removable and can be just tapped out to remove them.
and have a look here for posting pics http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic479.html

Easy when you know how !!!
No it is not removable, I fixed the mesh on the top and bottom openings from behind with a hot melt glue gun. The middle opening I fitted on from the front, again with the glue gun. You could always just remove the top grille and bottom panel and give them a blast with a pressure washer.

no pressure washers out bush . old man came back from a fossicking trip and had to stop several times to clean the radiator as it was full of grasshoppers and I mean full, over an inch thick on his windscreen
I wish I had a photo as it looked quite funny where there was a hole in the bugs where he would reach out his arm whilst driving to clean the windscreen .

I'd be interested in a silver set if Uncle goes into production!

I just bought a sheet of aluminium mesh from Halfords, it is made by Ripspeed and they sell it for £22 approx. Just cut to shape and fix on. If you are careful with your cutting and measuring you can do it all with one sheet.

A word of caution about the mesh - I recently replaced the OE louvre type grill on my D1 with the Saudi/Safari type mesh grill.
It looks great but when you go wading it acts like a sieve for every bit of pond weed, leaves and other small bits of debris that it comes in contact with!! When all this has dried out it's a b ard to remove and you don't want to be using a jet wash near the intercooler !!!

sounds like a good thing to me rather than using the radiator etc as a sieve and having everything bake onto it.

I agree Catweasel - it was only a word of caution - far better for the mesh to sieve the pond weed etc than the intercooler!!

Can you take a photo a bit further back from the front of the car, so the 'look' can be seen please?
I think it looks good as well as being practical!
