| Should I return to the Disco |
|
I used to own an 05 disco. After numerous problems with the suspension and electrics the dealer bought it back off us (no financial loss).
We loved the disco but are nervous that if we got another one it would fall apart on us again. Has the build quality improved?
What is the status of new engines. I know there won't be a TDV8, but the local dealer said there will be a bigger engine, is this true.
Further to this I am very tempted by a FFRR.
Thanks for any advice,
Harvey

Lots of happy people here now. Personally, I think you were unlucky. Mine is 3.5 yrs old and 105k miles and hardly any trouble at all.
Any problems are quickly dealt with by a good dealer. Silver TDV6 HSE

07 no problems in 14K miles but it is over £100 pounds to fill up and the depreciation is massive at the moment due to the current state of the economy. That said you can pick them up for next to nothing if your prepared to shop around for a used example.
I also had an 05 with no problems so maybe you were just unlucky.

Gareth thats good to know. I was hoping that ours was an exceptional case.
One of the problems we had was as follows:
Driving back from Scotland the suspension collapsed. Then when I parked up the locks would not work so I phoned LR assist. Apparantly having to leave a car on the street in central London unlocked was not classified as an emergency.
The LR experience was not good. However the Disco was so practical, and so much better than an X5 ect. that we want to try again.
What is the status with the new engines?

3.0 litre tdv6 is in pipe, but no idea when.
LR are trying to clear 08.5 model year vehicles in advance of 09's and there seem to be some really good deals around. Silver TDV6 HSE

I share your pain- I had a 55 plate SE which was a shed which spent nearly 100 in the garage over three years. Now driving BMW. OK so I am never going to do extreme mud plugging in this car (x5 M sport) but at least it will be on my drive and not in the garage most of it's life.

My experience of modern BMWs is that they tend to last about 4 years and then fall apart and cost serious money to put right... DISCO3 Goodies in the Shop: Stickers, Polo Shirts, Fleeces and More! | D3 Parts For Sale

That's part of the modern business plan for the big players and where they make a lot of their money. No point building a car that breaks down in warranty and costing money. Set the default "turn to " switch at approx. 40months from 1st registration.
Mine is coming up for 3 years now and no real issues to speak of. Just turning 40k miles and only had my first servicable bill for brake pads and front discs. Can't complain at that. Sounds like you were unlucky. I buff my bonnet ALL the time
