I'm afraid I've just got home after spending late saturday night and most of today in hospital. It seems that after nearly 38 years of throwing whatever I fancy down my throat I've developed a severe reaction to something, as yet unknown but likely to be peanuts, shelfish or possibly Asprin, and came within seconds of dying last night in the crash room at Dorchester A&E with a severe anaphylactic episode. I'd lost consciousness, my BP was 60 over 40 and I had a pulse touching on 200 when they got me on the table, and the consultant estimates I was less than 60 seconds from the big curtain when they injected me. To rub salt into the wound the hospital have also put a cautionary question mark over my cardiac function after the ECG threw up an anomaly this afternoon, although this is 50/50 down to the huge shots of adrenalin I received in the crash room. The question mark is small enough that the team at A&E were happy I was fit enough to head home and continue the tests with my GP.
As I'm sure you'll imagine, both Stel and I are absolutely shattered, physically and mentally, by this. I need to see my GP on Monday to undertake some more tests and collect some extra adrenaline shots as I will now have to carry two with me wherever I go for the rest of my life. Hopefully I'll be carrying them for some years yet! It is likely to be at least 2-3 weeks before the results of the R.A.S.T tests are known so over this period I have to be ultra careful as I won't know what triggered the episode until the test results are back from the toxicology team.
On the plus side, I can confidently inform any Jehovah's Witnesses that knock at my door that as I went down the tunnel the last thing I saw and heard was my beloved wife pleading with me from a very long way away and after that it was all very, very black indeed. Fortunately the adrenaline kicked in about 30 seconds later and I came back with a hell of a bang.
Not usually one to use this slogan, but tonight it seems wholly apprropriate:
One life, live it.

me ND, that is one hell of a story, glad to hear that you made it through your flatliners episode and heres to at least another 38 years. My biggest concern is if you find out that you have an allergy to www.disco3.co.uk or www.defender2.net or www.ebay.co.uk
I had to fly over to Hereford Hospital on Sat morning as my step dad at 64 had a major heart attack, I cannot stress enough, what a hospital, easy parking, good facilities for family and very pleasant staff. That is a major scare ND. Glad to see that you are back with us and with the same sense of humor as before.
Hope that you find the cause and are able to avoid it in future. D3 05 SE (old one)
