Quote:PORSCHE UPDATE ON JUDICIAL REVIEW PROCESS
July 2008
Legal campaign update -
Porsche wins victory in congestion charge challenge
Thank you very much for your support as we challenged
Mayor Livingstone's proposed £25 congestion charge in London.
As you saw for yourself, the congestion charge was a major issue
in the mayoral campaign and the candidate who opposed this
extension, Boris Johnson, was elected Mayor.
I am pleased to inform you that, today, the Administrative Court
in London has approved a consent order quashing the increase to
the charge. The new Mayor's legal team accepted that the
previous Mayoral administration should have taken into account
research from King's College which showed that the new charge
would actually increase CO2 emissions in Greater London and,
consequently that the new charge could, in fact, be unlawful.
Porsche has always been confident that the legal case was right
and now we are proud to have played a decisive role in striking
down such a blatantly political tax targeting motorists.
It is expected that significant legal costs will be awarded and
Porsche has decided to donate those costs to a fantastic charity
called Skidz, which takes at-risk young people and trains them in
motor vehicle maintenance and mechanics. This gives them the
tools and confidence they need to find gainful employment and
avoid a life of crime.
The support from Porsche will allow Skidz to open a facility in
Hillingdon, providing this opportunity to young Londoners for
the first time.
If you have any further comments or questions, you can contact
Porsche directly by e-mail at judicial.review@porsche.co.uk or
telephone 08457 911 911.
Thank you again for your support which was tremendously
encouraging and important to the challenge.
Yours sincerely,
Andy Goss

A couple of things, first this is a sensible outcome to a silly situation.
Second its good news for those kids that Skids will help.
I just wander if the outcome would have been the same if it had been fronted by a 4x4 company rather than a sports car company Rob Smith

No no ...he really is a bumbling idiot. A few months in and look at it
Quote:Boris Johnson has admitted that he had not read a key document setting out how the 2012 Olympic Games will be funded and insisted "I doubt it exists" - even though it is publicly available on the Culture Department's website
Quote:When it comes to bad judgment, it’s looking like there will be few recent decisions in British government that will rival the Conservatives’ choice to appoint Ray Lewis as deputy mayor of London, holding him up as a shining example of the “new Conservative party.”
Quote:Plans to levy a £25 tax on gas guzzlers were scrapped today. The Mayor is “delighted”, despite having to pay £400,000 in legal fees to the plaintiff, Porsche
Porsche was first to legally contest the ruling. Today, Johnson withdrew the proposal and a court ruled that Transport for London must pay the luxury car manufacturer’s court fees.
By Transport for London, we mean (incidentally) “the taxpayer"

DG,
To be fair to Boris, the £25 charge plan was that of the previous incumbent and so the majority of the cost of m'learned friends had already been incurred by the time he could instruct his legal team to settle. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Though if I were Porsche then it would be in the better interests of the taxpayer if I agreed to match the cost figure for investment in London schemes Powered by TorqTune

All the bored children in my village have just read the report and found the donation to charity very interesting. As there is absolutely amenity's for them locally.
which takes at-risk young people and trains them in
motor vehicle maintenance and mechanics. This gives them the
tools and confidence they need to find gainful employment and
avoid a life of crime.
They have now organised themselves into a gang called 'The Pizzbridge 31/2' they intend to spend a life of crime nicking cars and ringing them. They hope that one day Porsche will hear of their plight and train them to become top mechanics. Certainty of death, 'small' chance of success... What are we waiting for?

I was in London last Wednesday and got stopped at 9:30pm by the police on Regent Street to be asked by a TFL person some information about my travel plans. They asked where I had been, why, where I parked, how much I paid to park and where I was going.
I told her I was on the way to Southampton and she didn't know which county it was in or where it was. Doesn't say much for TFL's qualifications if they don't have a basic concept of the geography of England.
I also made a joke about NCP car parks being run by Dick Turpin as they charged me £36 for half a day and she said she hadn't heard of that car park, but if I gave her the road name she could find it
