I take it that it is on their own finance system and not the DVLA as I would assume that it is not possible to have two cars with the same VIN number on different plates.
Be a bit embarrassing if it was somebody on here

To be honest all parties are being very cagey at the moment.......I need to go home and check all my cars documentation thoroughly and report back to the DVLA
They have told me the other reg. no. though, don't think I have ever seen it at a D3 event really ought to change this.........

Is it the same colour etc, reg date etc. If you look on the DVLA website and do a vehicle enquiry with the other reg no it will give you the details. Would be interesting to see if everything matches your car

Right
just come off the phone from the DVLA. My car has an identical twin (in all except displayed reg. no.). Can someone please confirm to me where the chassis number is recorded on the car and what form it takes e.g. sticker, plate etc.
I now have to get the vehicle authenticated by Land Rover to see which one is the real one:roll: really ought to change this.........

I would be surprised if these were the only signs.
I would expect a 'proper' stamped/riveted plate on the bulkhead or similar but I'm blowed if I can spot it

The VIN is on a plate visible through the windscreen, on a sticker under the bonnet on the slam panel and most importantly on the right hand chassis frame (just behind the body mount behind the front wheel).
I guess yours is from a dealer so it can't be yours which is a ringer surely.

Simon, you're only going to get this sorted by making an appointment to see these people http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Dl1/Directories/DG_10011302 and arranging for them to inspect the vehicle and verify its authenticity. That, in conjunction with a conversation with the police, will ensure the owner of the other vehicle also has to have theirs inspected and the problem rectified. Unfortunately I think you'll find you'll be responsible for your test fee, but I'm sure you'll see it as a small price to pay for peace of mind. Going, going...... Gone!

The same happened to a friend at work, he kept getting parking tickets for car from a town up north. It turned out that his car had been rung in every detail. After converstaions with police, DVLA etc this became apparent. Fortunatley there was a lot of parking tickets all for the same area, local police notified and the car/crooks were soon caught.
