I heard on the grapevine that the TDV8 engine will be discontinued in the not too distant future.
I was shocked, as iirc the TDV8 was a new design, not based on an existing block from the Ford stable.
The source works for LR, so no reason to not believe them.
I can only think that LR want to replace it with a more frugal (less CO2 etc.) unit. Maybe the new 3.0TDV6 ?
Anyone know more about this?

When you say 'short life expectancy', do you mean that it's likely to explode after 100.000 miles or that LR will phase it out within a short space of time??
Assuming it's the latter, a 3.0 TDV6??? I doubt it....
TBH it was the TDV8 engine that gave the RRS the boost it needed to keep it at the top of it's tree....it's a cracking engine and dropping back down to only offering a V6 (especially a 3.0 V6 with only 220 ish bhp) would be a very bad move....
If LR are to start playing with low-emission frugal engines, I can't see the RRS being the best place to start...more likely the FL2, LRX and maybe the D3, but not the market where the real money is at.
Just an opinion - as far as the RRS is concerned I would be more tempted to think that they'd up the power/capacity even more to keep the X5 and Q7 at bay 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Edited my OP. I meant that the TDV8 will be discontinued in the not too distant future.
Having driving a TDV8 FFRR for 4 days, I think it's a brilliant engine & very well suited to the FFRR.
I was very surprised to hear that it was to be discontinued.
I heard no dates though, so who knows. Anyone?

Read in a german off road magazine Allrad that tdv8 would be replaced by 3.0tdv6 for the RRS. I was also surprised. Just a single line of text under a pic of a new disguised one. Blew me away. What a silly thing to do.

The whole CO2 crap will be exposed for the psuedo science that it is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scien...l_warming. In fact we may need CO2 to stop the impending ice age. El Nina still strong now joined forces with the PDO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_decadal_oscillation plus the sun going awfully quiet, plants = CO2 = food is going to need all the help it can get.
You guys in scotland, get out of there. I'm headed south, unfortunately not in a tdv8.

They can't build enough of these engines as there is such demand. They would be crazy to stop it, especially if they are going to introduce the diesel engines to the USA they will need it.
I've tried a RRS with it and if wasn't for the fact that the boot on the RRS is tiny I would have bought one.
I do hope it isn't true, but no smoke without fire.

TDV8 engine is BYOOTIFUL - from what I KNOW and have SEEN (nudge nudge wink wink), I can not believe they'll be dropping it. Steve N | 2006 TDV6 S Auto in Buckingham Blue | Member of the top ten club | Am I online?

I believe the TdV8 will be replaced by a 3.0l Tdv6 soon.
It is more powerful & more frugal than the V8.
A shared power plant with Jaguar I believe.
I have also heard that D3 will be the last Discovery. Its replacement is likely to be a 7 seat LWB version of FL2
Oh for a crystal ball!
