Our dog

Our dog has started some odd behaviour the last 24 hours, he sits in front of you and his head rolls from side to side. There are no other symptoms and he is full of energy and he runs around chasing and catching the ball.

It just seems like it is not right.

Any idea's before we head to the vet.

If you laughed at him doing it the first time, he may be doing it to entertain you - a kind of attention seeking thing.

But nobody knows the dog better than you so if you think there's something wrong you would be best seeking proffesional advice.

I've found telephone consultations with the vet tend to be free Whistle

Dogs learn habits very very quickly, In 10 minutes we trained a dog to ring a bell on a chain where ever it was in the room, it was a whippet which are one of the harder breeds to train. If you don't like the trait ignore it, don't even look at the dog. If you scold it you are only reinforcing it. What breed is it (guessing collie / crossbred)

I was thinking it was more medical than behavioural. When I say rolls his head, it is a very gentle roll side to side like he is loosing control or has a balance issue in his head.

To be honest I don't mind him rolling his head if he enjoys it, but as long as it is not a medical issue.

If he tilts it to one side and looks disorientated that would be different. If he runs around and normal in every other way I wouldn't be bothered.

Simon, get yea & said hound down to good dog training classes!!! Our hounds were awful at pulling on the lead, training sorted them out and now they are a joy. One needed a choke chain for a while, which worked fantastically but we needed to be "trained" properly in its use by the instructor. Training is well recomended (by me anyway) as our boys were also meeting far more dogs than normal so were getting well socialised. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

U know it make sense!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

PS we've found there is no problems with training older dogs thru classes as we took our last generation of dogs to classes at 6 (ISTR) after they had a bit of a set to together. Evil or Very Mad

Is he rolling his head more to one side? Have you checked inside his ears, any grass seeds, other small things? If there is any infection could cause slight balance probs.

Just a thought.
If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!
