These have been going for ages on the M42 and are called SPECS camera's or something similar.
The variable speed limits might be set and working to prevent hold ups 10 miles down the motorway that you don't see, lower speed prevents everyone getting there to quick and making it worse.

They're definitely NOT SPECS - the warning signs talk about 'Variable Speed Limit' and not 'Average Speed Cameras' - just like on the M25, people speed up and slow down between the gantries - and all the locals seem to know which ones have cameras behind them too Rolling Eyes and ignore the ones that don't - Or like me they found that their TomTom was picking out only the gantries with cameras on them Thumbs Up

Look on the opposite carriageway gantrees if you want to know which have the cameras Whistle
Over 7000 miles of trouble-free motoring......well almost .....(only two visits to dealer and 3 days without)

Well when I'm on the Motorway CMPG airwave talkgroup attending one of there incidents, numerours times there motorway patrol cars ask their control room to put them on the log for the SPECS camera's on the M42.

So unless the Police motorway patrol cars don't know what they are I would suggest that they could well be SPECS cameras... Rolling Eyes

I'll ask the next Motorway car I see what they are and I'll let you know. Thumbs Up

Please do.

There's no mention of SPECS on the M42 on http://www.speedcamerasuk.com

OK

Road works on the M42/M6 have SPECS camera's set around 55mph in the 50mph limit. When the roadworks are gone the M42 Speed Camera's are normal type. Embarassed

Going to London the other day with the father in law I took a Tom Tom and on the M25 it was telling me that a speed camera was coming, but the in laws Road Angel was not bleeping and vice versa a few times. So don't rely totally on the Tom Tom Neutral
