M42 Speed Cameras

As of tomorrow I have been informed that a new digital automated tracking system between junctions 3 & 7b on the M42 is scheduled to go live.

There are 276 Digital Cameras which have been set to 2MPH tolerance.

You will not see any flash and the fine is £60 plus 3 points (which could add to over £250 / year to your insurance).

This information comes to me on good authority but I must stress that it is un-official.

If you're travelling along this stretch of motorway stick your motor in cruise control Wink

Is this 2MPH plus the 10% speedometer tolerance? (assuming that still exists...)

For example, if a 60mph limit was set, would 67mph be considered 'within tolerance'?

Any legal eagles out there?

All depends on the tyres you run on SB.
With mine, my speedo reading is 0% out!!
So at 70mph speedo reading, I'm doing 70mph!!!

Those camera's are a mix of ANPR (remember they are next to B'Ham airport), Traffic Cameras and speed cameras doing the average speed thing. They have been live for some time - IIRC same time as they launched the drive in the hard shoulder thing. I have cetrainly seen points awarded at work on this stretch of road in the last 12 months.

As for 10% + 2MPH, that is a voluntary old guide from the ACPO (association of chief police officers) most traffic cops and police authorities do still keep to the guide, some do not including Richard Brunstrom in North Wales. Who ironically then got done for 31mph in his own village. So it may be that the 2% is 2% not 10+2.

I thought the speed cameras were only in operation if the variable speed limit kicked in.... Confused

these have been in operation ever since the hard shoulder running started and the variable speed limit came in

Thursday evening they were COMPLETELY pointless - signed at 50 most of the way, no particular traffic to mention at all - waste of everyone's time Evil or Very Mad
