Disco 2 Clutch problems

Howdy,

My uncle's disco 2 is having clutch problems, sometimes he can get no gears and then magically they all return! Land rover dealer wants to do a complete clutch change at EUR1,500 but it sounds to me more like a master cylinder job? I ain't a mechanic so im just guessing. It is a 2002 model with only 40k on the clock, very little towing and no off roading. Any previous Discovery 2 owners had this problem?

Thanks

could be dual mass flywheel problem

Had big issues with them at new and it's quite usual to replace the flywheel at first clutch replacement
You want it for how much !!!!!

Handle every situation like a dog, if you can't eat it or hump it, Pi$$ on it and walk away......

TLO,

Thanks for the reply. If the fly wheel does need to be replaced is it best just to go ahead and get all the clutch components done at the same time?

Is it a job that could be done by a local mechanic if he had all the necessary parts??

yep, don't skimp on not replacing the clutch if it does turn out to be flywheel, also make sure the fitter replaces the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft as this WILL make a nois if not replaced making it necc to take the gearbox out again....
