Or just swap the battery out with your mate Wiggs and see who then has the problem.

Ent, I reckon its your starter motor. Your description sounds just like my old defender had. I changed the batteries, alternator and still had the problem. the starter was zapping all battery power trying to activate the solenoid.

Typical, all this talk about dodgy starters and mine completly packed up this morning, not even a glimmer of activity, totally dead.

Car is now at dealers who have confirmed its the starter. They wont be fixing it until after the weekend, in the meantime Ive got a merc ml320 cdi...

I DONT LIKE IT Sad

its very small compared to the D3, handling is good but boring, its quick but noisy and I dont like it.

more like solenoid zapped power trying to activate stater!!

In the past when ever we had slow starter issues it's always been the solenoid, either it's sticking or poor (dirty or loose) electrical connection. going on from that if it's a complete unit that would explain the dealers having to exchange the whole starter unit (wouldn't be surprised if LR just strip and replace Solenoid and then use on next replacement Whistle )
my 4x4 hasn't grown up yet Confused
