| HELP - problem with LR dealer |
|
Hi guys,
Im starting th new thread as I think im going to need help from you guys to stop me beng ripped off bad style
Took my D3 into williams lndrover, manchester on saturday with the following complaints, my car is under warrantee (just!!)
1. Hard to engaged reverse and 1st gear
2. All 4 tyres had exessive wear on inside edge to the point wear they are now illegal even though there is load
of thread left on the other sides
3. engine starting to sound a little rough and fuel economy has gone down
4. Back brake lights not working
I have quoted them 2 TSB's, TSB LA204-008 for 'bush settle' and also TSB 308-001 regardinf the stiff gears
williams called me yesteerday and said it was either caused by under/oveer inflation or balancing and it would cost me 773.00 for 4 new tyres and 222.00 for a four whel alighnment to be done. I told them about the TBS for bush settle and they sai that it no longer exists....... They are suposed to be phoning landrover HQ for confirmation
Next, is the reverse/1st gear selecting problem. They have told me that this TSB does not refer to the problem I have. They are not saying what it is caused by but it sounds like they wil want paying for this!!
Next again is the engine, they said they are still looking into it
last, lights - they have not mentioned this yet
Can you folkes please offer some advice on what I should do as I dont want to be ripped off!!, Im a bit of a house really when It comes to standing my ground on things like this as I dont know too much about cars so have relie on other peoples advice

Speak to LR customer service,
any hastle with regards to warranty work is usually because the dealer is unsure of getting their cash back off LR
sounds like you have some valid claims as long as your vin is in the correct range.
if the dealer gives you grief just take it to another one! "its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

Get on to LR CC.
They are contradicting themselves.
The tyre wear is due to over or under inflation Ask them which one
Why do the need to do a wheel alignment if the wear is caused by the symptoms they have described. For use of a 4x4 site and driver training pm me

just spoke to customer services at LR HQ!
They said if im not happy to take it to another authorised LR repairer.
Im thinking williams dont want to do a warrantee repair as they dont get paid as much for the same job as they would do if it was private. I asked LR CC do LR repairers get paid the same for the job if it was done privately, they insisted yes but minus VAT. He also said that warrantee jobs are their 'bread and butter'!
anyone know a good repairer near liverpool that I can take this to and have it checked properly if i decide to take it else where. i dont mind traveling to get it fixed properly

I had uneven tyre wear last year, rear tyres badly worn on inside edge, LR customer services agreed to replace tyres and suspension arm bushes under waranty.
The last time I had a problem (stuck in first gear and Christmas lights on dash) The car was taken to James Edwards Chester and I found them to be very thorough, they found problems I didn't even take it in with!
Be firm when on to LR customer services!! Disco 3 TDV6 HSE

Spoke to williams again,
They have said that the TSB for bush settle does not exist anymore as he has spoken to LR CC. He said he would be unable to diagnose any problem until he does a 4 wheel alignment check, which would cost me 222.00!! He then said that only then would he be able to say what the problem exactly is and if its down to a manufacturing fault, then a claim could be submitted for tyres but he said that LR do not generally pay for these
what should I do??
as for the gears, he said he still has not had a problem with them He is going to try again in the morning and see what happens
Lights just need new bulbs
He said he has hooked ithe engine up to the diagnostic computer and found no faults!! can I ask if the computer would automatically put any firmware updates onto the ECU

I was always under the impression that if tyres worn on outside edges (both) that was caused by under inflation, whilst worn down middle due to over inflation.
If only worn on inside edges wouldn't that be tracking related as to much toe in/out or camber incorrect?
Correct me if wrong by all means
Definately try another dealer though

I find the comment about TSB LA204-008 not existing to be odd, given that I am in discussions with LRCS about it. No mention has been made of manufacturing faults, and my local dealer charged £112 for the 4 wheel alignment check & tracking.
As others have said, try another dealer. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

I don't use main dealers unless there is no alternative so can't really help you with that side of your problem but if the worst happens and you end up having to shell out for new tyres I always use blackcircle.com - they source the cheapest tyres in your locality. I recently paid £292 for two HP Wrangler's fitted and balanced. That might save you a couple of hundred. Badda bing.......How you doin'?

well as you know, LRCC agreed to pay for a 4 wheel alighnment, I was told by williams in manchester that I had to get new tyres before they would do it. I purchased for new goodyear wrangles at the cost of 620.00.
I took it to williams and had the 4 wheel alignment done and asked them to do the MOT and service while it was in. It was in over the weekend and got a call today to say it was ready to be picked up. Long behold when I gets there, they informed me that they has replaced 'under warrantee' the 2 front lower suspension arm ball joints due to excessive play.
I was the receptionist that told me, the manager, who was an arse with me was no where to be seen. Looks like I was right.
what would your advice be now about claiming back the money I paid for new tyres for LRC??
