Try the fish and chips in the Star Bay Inn, Torcross
I can recommend a good quiet beach, and you can drive down to it if you don't mind a bit (understatement!) of bramble rash. I tried it in mine on Saturday and had to reverse back as I didn't like the scraping sounds, but then a D2 flew down there with his fishing gear on board! It was about 10 years older than mine though, so he probably didn't care. Dartmoor has some great places if you want to get away from the crowds. You could go to see my old college......
Visible on the hill top from most locations in Dartmouth but I doubt if they would let you in to look around.... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

My father used to have a boat in Dartmouth, it was a Princess 42 ,a serious stealth machine.
Dartmouth holds great memories and some great PUBS
If it was me visiting I would' nt stray very far.

Dartmouth is beautiful anyway...but have a look at Crown Hill Fort near Plymouth - fantastic place to see and loads of history.
The National Aquarium is well worth a visit too - in Plymouth.
If you like beaches then have a look at Thurlstone Sands if you want a nice quiet beach. Blackpool Sands is quite nice but you have to pay to access it and it will be busy - lots of kids...its shingle too (very small pebbles but clear water normally).
The touristy bits to have a look around are Salcombe and Kingsbridge, and of course you could go and look around Dartmoor...
In Plymouth the Hoe is a nice walk and plenty of good restaurants to eat in. I can recommend the Muscle Inn at Wembury for a good selection of pub food, with some interesting dishes (if they still do them) of Kangaroo, Alligator and Ostrich!
Going East will take to you the touristy places such as Paignton and Torquay - quite nice but , well, touristy!
Have a great time!
