Locking fuel cap

I know this has been covered before, but again last night some scroats tried to steal the fuel from the car, they prized open the fuel flap, ( they didnt get any fuel ) we presume they were disturbed.

just checked with land rover and they have never heard of fuel being stolen Shocked Shocked and dont do a separate locking cap.

Has anybody found one yet ?

does the filler neck not have an anti-syphon guard on it?

Hi J@mes, dont know, ive never tried pikeing fuel before, as far as i am aware most antisyphon devices are usually designed to reduce the diameter of the neck, but if you wee to use a small pipe it may well fit. But not sure.

Me neither, I wasn't sure if it was a gauze filter which stopped anything going in to the tank or not Confused

hi james, it seems quite common in the states their flaps dont even lock. it seems i am correct in my line of thought as a few in the states have been relieved of their fuel.

Hi Thanks for the reply, their caps are aimed at the d1-d2 market, not the d3-d4, but they were very helpful and are contacticing the manufacturer to see what is available,

will keep you posted.

It's ok fitting a locking fuel cap on your car but if the low life's really want your fuel they'll drill a hole in the tank !!

Very true but generally they must know that d3 fuel flaps are easy enough to open and the cap non locking. So even if they prise the flap open and find a locking cap they may go elsewhere instead. They could always steal the car. All you can do is try to make your car less inviting than others. Sad

I checked with they guys as the website didn't list one for the D/LR4 and seeming the D4 has the anti misfuelling device they weren't 100% sure, but I just got this reply from them:
Quote:
Hi there

I have just test fitted a cap on an LR4 and although in design it is
slightly different it was a successful fit, the Dealer concerned
(Shuckers Shrewsbury) could not have been any more helpful and
confirmed that the Land Rover part number now is the same for the LR3
& LR4 models, and there miss-fueling device is part of the filler tube
a few inches down, so the cap will not interfere with the caps
operation, I hope this of help to you.
If I can be of any further help just let me know.

Nice idea. Though I notice they list Land Rover Discovery (3) 2004 to 06, and Discovery 4 from 2009. Maybe does not fit 2007/8 models??

When it is all one one line that looks like the likely interpretation - when the web page is on a narrow screen and the line breaks after 06, then it looks quite different! Look forward to hearing how you get on.
