DT, that is exactly the intent of the post. I'm not interested in starting the car just getting in to get the spare electronic key. Definately dont think its a good idea to hide the LR key (electronic) outside. Good to see that the issue able to be resolved cheaply. LR roadside assistance will be happy with my investment in a spare key i'm sure. Thanks everyone.

Slightly off-topic: I had a key stolen a couple of months ago. Had to order not one, but 2 spare keys (took 10 wks to arrive, by the way). This was to prove to the insurance company that programming the new keys to work also programmed the old keys to no longer work. All-up cost was about A$800 (of course not coverable by the insurer). Yes, the old key unlocks everything, including the steering ignition switch, but it won't start the car. Next maintenance trip I'll get the old, obsolete key re-programmed and hopefully have 3 keys which work (and one hidden somewhere helpful so I can swim at the beach without worrying about losing a key). Hi DingMark,
Be aware that, if you want to reprogram a third key to operate on the car, you'll need to take ALL keys in to be reprogrammed at the same time. (No need to ask me how I know )
I don't think that it is more expensive to reprogram 3 keys than 2 (about $70 iirc).
Best Wishes,
Peter

Back again!
Took my key to the locksmith, but they didn't have a blank. If anyone has been successful would you name the locksmith please. I live in Lithgow, NSW (Blue Mountains). So Sydney references would be ok. Thanks again.
