| Group buy - Front protection plate |
|
G'day everyone.
Just wondering if anybody is interested in joining a bunch of us in a group buy for 4x4 Intelligence's radiator protection plate?
We were all at our club's Advanced Sand driving at Stockton a few weeks ago and saw first hand how essential this protection is.
WayneD hit a sandy slope at high speed and we all heard this almighty 'crunch'. The point of impact was the exposed radiator and I though his D3 was done for. Turned out the car was ok and his protection plate survived with no damage. A couple of other D3's suffered minor damage to the front. The day really showed how vulnerable the D3's radiator area is. It also rammed home how great having the protection plate is Without that plate, Wayne's radiator would have been a goner, I think.
We have now seen for ourselves how tough the 4x4 plate is. As far as I'm concerned, its a no brainer - buying the plate is a lot cheaper than paying for a new radiator
We currently have 4 confirmed orders - all 4 were at the training course above
The retail price is $759.
For this group buy, Simon Arch is giving us an incredible price of $450
If we can get a large enough group buy, I'm sure we can twist Simon's arm a bit more for an even lower price. Who knows, Simon might even thrown in a free set of rock sliders?
For all Sydneysiders, I can arrange for the plates to be delivered to my place at Gladesville - you can come over to pick your plate up. We'll save big on freight charges this way. I'll even make you a cup of my freshly home roasted espresso
I think it is quite easy to install the plate yourself. Perhaps we can have a combined group install and social?
For those of you not within travelling distance to Sydney, Simon can probably send the plate to you direct but you will have to pay for your own freight. Given the fantastic discount, it will still be worth it.
I'll provide the other administrative details later - ie payment, timeframe, etc
Cheers

Mmmm maybe Simon can pay me a commission for advetising.
Had the vehicle serviced at Graeme Coopers on Monday and the mechanic reckons he is still getting sand out of his hair. His comment "never seen so much sand in a vehicle" Take the road less traveled. I assume the plate is redundant if you have an ARB Bar - as this protects the radiator in same way? I always assumed this was the case (not having seen the Mantec style plates in the flesh) but I noted one of the guys in the UK (or was it Middle East..) advertisess he has both....? 2006 SE TDV6, remapped 185Kw, 545NM; Java / black leather; LR roof DVD; LR Expedition rack / LR ladder; LR side steps; LR light guards; OL drawer system; Elec trailer brake controller; 3 extra 12V hella sockets; LR raised air intake; ARB bar; Lightforce spotties; OL rear wheel carrier; Long Ranger 115 litre sub-tank; GME 3440 UHF; TPMS; Traxide/Optima yellow / National Luna dual battery monitor; 6 x 18inch rims with General Grabber AT2's; Mitchell Bros tow hitch; OBIES rear window protector.

Hi BlackPerth,
I think the ARB bar already has a bash plate of sorts as part of the bar. You don't need a separate one.
The 4x4 Intelligence plate bolts up using the same holes as the plastic cover - I didn't check WayneD's setup too closely but I did see a lot of bolts holding the plate to the vehicle I think it is because of the many bolts that the plate is so strong.
Wayne, can you confirm this?

Yep, the ARB bar certainly has a proetction plate (and access to the "tow" hook...just cant imagine why you need both...and think the answer is you dont! 2006 SE TDV6, remapped 185Kw, 545NM; Java / black leather; LR roof DVD; LR Expedition rack / LR ladder; LR side steps; LR light guards; OL drawer system; Elec trailer brake controller; 3 extra 12V hella sockets; LR raised air intake; ARB bar; Lightforce spotties; OL rear wheel carrier; Long Ranger 115 litre sub-tank; GME 3440 UHF; TPMS; Traxide/Optima yellow / National Luna dual battery monitor; 6 x 18inch rims with General Grabber AT2's; Mitchell Bros tow hitch; OBIES rear window protector.

For that price, I'd certainly be interested. Being Adelaide based thevfreight is probably about the same as Sydney. Perhaps if there are a few Adelaide takers we can do the same with freight.

Hi Getafix,
The plate simply replaces the current front plastic cover. The vehicle is not altered. The only thing I am not sure is if those little blue tabs (that the plastic cover clips to) need to be replaced with something else (a nut?) to hold the bolts. Those pesky little things keep dropping out by themselves anyway

Hi Razzle,
Its probably best to contact 'Drivesafe' directly for the Traxide system. He spent almost an hour on the phone with me working out the best setup and had absolutely everything I needed nicely packaged and sent to me. All the wiring, circuit breakers, connectors were prepared for me and it only took about 20 minutes to install the system in the engine compartment My system was a little bit more complex in that I wanted a permanent dual battery setup in the engine bay plus an occassional third battery in the back for when we are travelling.
Cheers
