| I'm new, what would you do...... |
|
Hi
I've just swapped my 07 FL2 GS for a 08 Disco3 HSE and am new to the site. Picked up the car from Guy Salmon Thames Ditton and headed straight to Cornwall fully packed for a 2wk holiday. I was immediately impressed by the space, engine, smooth gear box 32+mpg and comfort. Kids loved it.
Now two things, firstly when picking up the car I noticed that the car in the dealers picture had side tubes and my car in the flesh did not. They've offered to fit side steps or I can swap these for another accessory. Think the light guards enhance the looks although I understand from your posts they're more bling than bullet proof. I've also read lots of posts that the steps help to prevent plonkers denting my doors - very appealing. What would you do? are there other things I should consider? The car will be used mainly in town although I'm planning to get it down to Salisbury Plain and Morocco (am also a BMW GSA rider and been round Alaska, Morocco, Sahara)
And sitting down on the first night in Cornwall to look at the manual, I thought I'd better understand how to change a wheel just incase. Imagine my surprise when I looked under the rear to see...................NOTHING..................they'd forgot to fit it. Thankfully no punctures during the two weeks and now rectified.
Anyway, look forward to reading and contributing to the site.
Regards
Jeremy

Welcome Jeremy
Good choice of dealer ..the have looked after me well for the last 5 years (strange thing about your wheel though )
If you want to take it off-road then don't bother with the side steps Light surrounds are just a bling thing ..but if you like them ..then stick them on.
The most important thing is to get yourself along to the South East meet on the last Tuesday of every month in Cobham

Is this toungue in cheek?
This chap has bought a car that appears to have been stripped of its bits (by the dealer?) between being photographed for sale and being handed over.
Wouldn't like to see a bad dealer down there then.....
Jeremy - forget the side bars, get a full size spare, a Mantec plate and a free service for their slap-dashednesss and see how it pans out.
Shame about the GS......... could have had a Honda.......

is it legal to supply a vehicle without a spare wheel ?
I know some makes of cars have a sealant kit & a pump (or a spacesaver) but if the vehicle was originally supplied & type approves with a spare &c is a dealer removing it legal ? ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

Possibly but nobody died so no point in ranting on about it, mistake was made and rectified, definitely not worth dragging GSTD through the mud over it, now if it was a Shatstones ......

Alfredo at Guy Salmon sorted it out also had the car cleaned so I'll put it down to an oversight and agree with the comments about how the dealer deals with the issue rather than getting heated about the missing items. I was impressed by the service staff at GSTD, good attitude.
Ref the Mantec plate you've suggested, how is it better than the LR version?
Cheers

Hi Jemery,
Get them to supply you with side steps (supply only)
They are a must have.
Then sell them on that great site flea bay and buy some of Uncle Rays rock sliders.

I'll tell you a story about Stratstones. My brother asked me to get him a used Mercedes 320 CLK Coupe. So I found a nice one and spoke to the dealer, eventually settled on a deal with 15 months warranty and delivery to Henley. Later my brother phones up and pays the £500 deposit and agree's delivery on Thursday next week.
The boss of the dealership rings up yesterday and says to my brother "You haven't taken out GAP insurance", to which my brother said he didn't want it and it had never been offered. The "manager" then says we can't sell you the car at that price unless you take the GAP insurance and then states "We are a business as I am sure you understand". My brother told him the deal had been done (deposit paid) and he wanted the car as agreed and was not backing out of the deal. The "manager" then says unless he signs it off it won't be a deal.
My brother then suggests he speaks to head office about his management technique and all of a sudden the deal is back on and the "manager" is blaming the sales person for not doing his job and making sure GAP was part of the deal.
This is a Mercedes dealer as well, not some under the arches garage. I also thought that as the FSA regulated the garages now, they couldn't pull this sort of trick to sell insurance or they risk being fined.
