Garry, Dealer replaced boot on half shaft rear on mine after last Simpson trip, torn like yours, they had to remove the half shaft to do it, in dooing so striped the thread on the outside and had to give me a new half shaft as well, you will see that the nut has a part hammered onto a groove, I suspect this damaged the thread on removing it.
Dont know instructions for removal but be carefull of the thread, I am sure that with care it can be removed with no damage but a new nut for the end would be wise.
Cheers
Rob
PS. Also you could use a small punch or cold chissel to carefully push the piened peice on the nut out. MY05 TDV6 SE, dirt colour, Now cremated !!!!!!!

Hi Garry,
For a temporary fix you can wire a piece of inner tube around the boot. That will give you a short break to get a replacement and plan the change.
Hi Rob,
Saw your vehicle in the dealers this week, I had a firmware upgade that has cured my sloppy suspension and a the steering clockspring replaced under service notice.
All the best

garryc wrote:Just had a good look around under the D3. There were some marks and scratches but no serious dings but on the rear drive shafts the inner boot on one axle and the outer boot on the other had a cut and some grease splashed around. The front axles and boots were OK so I'm assuming that the damage might be from stones thrown up as there were some roads with larger gravel. The rugged sections on the Zigzag and Old Telegraph track would have been more likely to damage the front boots don't you think Has anyone done a replacement for these
Well I got the halfshaft out and a genuine LR boot kit which is both boots, clips and grease. The GTR instructions say for the inner boot replacement "Using a drift against the inner part of the CV joint, remove the CV joint from the halfshaft". Has anyone done this I have bent two brass drifts and tried many other methods but I cannot get the CV joint off the axle Any suggestions S White, TdV6, air suspension, 110ltr Long Range tank, Kaymar wheel carrier, aux. battery, adjustable cargo barrier, LR snorkel(waterproofed), reversing and front camera, Cooper tyres and tyre sensors, Codan NGT. garryc wrote:Just got back after 5 weeks to Cape York and back. Did Gunshot, CREB and Zigzag. Got stuck temporarily in Nolan Creek with water half way up doors, wheels turning but not much traction. Feet started to get wet (thinks "golly, this is getting serious") but was able to reverse out and cross about 2 metres to the left OK Others got caught and filled with water. Next day got "suspension error" (orange light) and Faultmate said "front left sensor slow". Went away the next day but returned after another water crossing. EPB was OK until we went through very soft sand a few days later and I got the brakes jammed on and the screaming. Still screams sometimes. Anyone got advice on how to fix that problem?? Will post pics soon. regards garryc
First pic is stuck in the middle on the first try and wet feet then the next two are second try a bit to the right where it isn't quite as deep

The cape has some great creek crossings, but I still prefer the desert for the solitude. To many loosers do the cape trip with overloaded vehicles and no idea. 06 TDV6 SE with Extras

Well the Cape trip is catching up with me. Went shopping this week and couldn't start the car Got the RAA out and he took the bash plate off and gave the starter a whack and it started. Found water had got into the brushes end and one of the brushes had stuck. Repaired it, as they wanted $990 for a new one Difficult to get out and bloody difficult to replace. Has anyone else had to that S White, TdV6, air suspension, 110ltr Long Range tank, Kaymar wheel carrier, aux. battery, adjustable cargo barrier, LR snorkel(waterproofed), reversing and front camera, Cooper tyres and tyre sensors, Codan NGT. H'mm, they really don't seem to like too much water do they. You can throw everything else at them, but water seems to cause a lot of problems. Having said that, we traversed a lot of bog holes and mud coming out of Israelite Bay ( Capre Arid) on our recent WA trip and have had no problems to date. But it certainly wasn't as deep as GerryC's photo's.

The description of the starter is" level 3 sealed unit, with labyrinth breathing tubes to help? with sealing and drainage". There is straight tube at the pinion end and a smaller tube with a dogleg at the brushes end. These tubes have a number of alternating half section flaps in each tube which I suppose would slow down water ingress. BUT with a hot starter in contact with cold water wouldn't that draw water in as the starter cooled and the air inside contracted S White, TdV6, air suspension, 110ltr Long Range tank, Kaymar wheel carrier, aux. battery, adjustable cargo barrier, LR snorkel(waterproofed), reversing and front camera, Cooper tyres and tyre sensors, Codan NGT. garryc,
I noticed that you haven't fitted a blind, any reason? I always carry a blind for water crossings.
