Key Fob Failure/Ebay replacement
My wife's keyfob has now stopped working. From looking at recent posts, it seems as though this is becoming a common occurence. I have tried charging it on long journeys but nothing I do gets it working again. So much for the 14 year battery!!
I have purchased a spare key off ebay and it has arrived. It is a Canadana key (315mhz) not UK 433mhz (no mention of this on the listing!) . I have rung my independent dealer and he has said that you can program a new keyfob if it has not been programmed to a vehicle before but he has his doubts whether this keyfob will work because of the frequency. Any thoughts? He is willing to give it a go though when he gets back from holiday the week after next.
In the mean time be warned that the ebayers are selling stock that is US/Canada based NOT UK sourced so do not waste your money!
Any idea how much one from the dealer costs?2010 5.0 V8 HSE, Ipanema Sand

Presume you've gone back to the dealer and tried the warranty route - i see yours is a 2005, but they might play nice and replace it for you...

try taping the non working one to the working one (back to back)
then inserting the working one in the ignition...with the non working one still taped to it and do your daily travelling for a couple days...has worked for us before
Otherwise new one is £92.91 retial...less forum discount TLO has left the building.......

Thanks for the tip - The Large One. If that does not work I will give you a shout. Can you PM me what you will need and the "adjusted" price
As you found out all keys are identical but operate on different frequencies depending on the market (and therefore probably on the frequency spectrum licensed for this type of thing in that country)...
Strange...For some reason it mentions 315MHz twice - maybe somebody can check the English version. It also says that the differences relate to both power and frequency, but then later says that they all operate at a low power level....

I never thought that would work. What is the thinking behind that if it works?
The keys have an inductive charging system (non-contact)....as long as the key you want to charge is very close to the original one, that it should charge up fine. Nick's idea of taping them together is a good one - you certainly wouldn't want to tape it to the steering column and leave it there 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

That's the fella
BTW I did have to edit my last message before anyone saw it.....I honestly thought "Why mess around taping it to the key?"....."Why not just stick it to the steering column and leave it there for a day or two"
I know.....I was having a 'Friday' moment....it reminds me of when my parents give me a key for the house when I was about 10 years old and I decided to put a sticker on it with our address just incase I lost it Of course...you could trust people back in those days 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

My keyfob stopped working intermittently, told the dealer and they said it worked for them and refused to replace it. It then gave up the ghost completely, so I used the spare, but then that went missing so was forced to use the non-working one. Surprise, surprise, it worked again. It's most odd that a few weeks rest seemed to restore it. I am still trying to get the dealer to replace as it's too risky having a temperamental key.2005 D3 TdV6 HSE Buckingham Blue
