I didn't think they closed automatically with the ignition off ...I thought you had to use the mirror adjustment knob Confused

EDIT:

With the rotary knob in the central position,
push it down to fold the mirrors. Push it down
again to unfold the mirrors.
If the mirrors are accidentally knocked out of
position (i.e. with one mirror folded and the
other in the normal position), press the switch
again to re-synchronise them.

I'm sure someone a while back was looking into a retrofit capability to do it automatically but I've no idea if it came to anything? it is a useful feature though and appears to be pretty much standard on FL2's Confused

I'd guess if the FL2 has it then only a module operates it, and if the HSE has it maybe a retrofit is possible. The guy for that is Wiggs, the D3 guinnepig. Thumbs Up He does it, step by step pics, forum members copy Bow down

My disco's in for a service and the stealer has given me a new FL2. It's ok, the inside looks sort of familiar, but it just fails to give me that permagrin. It's difficult to work out why. However, one good bit is the mirrors fold in when I lock it. Now I want this on my D3! I realise that many will think this is just a bit of frivolous bling but think about it - when you're parked in traffic (especially on tight roads in London) you have to power fold the mirrors in before getting out, but you often can't see behind to safely open the drivers door with the mirrors folded in. Catch 22.

There must be an LR module off the FL2 that makes the magic happen? It' would be great to see if it's a possible retrofit. Before I start to research, has anyone tried it?

I do agree, its the only problem I have found in ownership. Having to get out once mirrors are in, dicey really as its so blind

It should be really easy to do, if you know where to find the mirror fold back module (and I don't as it's not fitted to mine). When the blue and black wire on pin 2 of the fold module is earthed, the mirrors fold in, so use a relay to do this when the ignition is off. ie power the coil of the relay from a 12v socket supply (only on with IGN), then splice a wire onto the blue and black wire and connect that to ground via the relay 'normally closed' (ie connected when off) switch. Hope I've not confused too many people with that Confused

Edit - Just added a simple diagram to the gallery which may help.

Can anyone help with the location of the mirror fold module? I suppose it doesn't matter if it's not easy to get at, as long as you can trace the blue and black wire somewhere along it's path between the door mirror switch and module.

glad mine don't do this, as when I've the towing mirrors on, if the door mirrors folded in, it would put a nice dent in my door panel from the towing moor attachment. Thumbs Up
