Transmission not changing

Here is another problem that has happened since my last service. the transmission will not change up to 6th gear until after a good 10 min doing 100km. I'm not happy when doing 3000rmp+ at 100km. Tried used the sports feature to go up the gear, but no go, stays locked until the engine is warm to hot. Anyone else has had this fault.

Hi. I don't understand why the change since you had the service, but mine has done this (to a limited extent) since brand new, when its pretty seriously cold. I think you will find that its a transmission or engine protecion feature, until the fluids are warmed. regards

Thanks BlackPerth. Mine is still only got 17500km, so still running in. Have been told its a software fault on all transmission, its just pot luck, mines now, someone else will be later, but ver very strange just after a sevice where they did an upgrade due to a recall..

Thanks as well Mr Andrew. I disagree, as I live in a place that get to -14, and the day before the service, the changing was not a fault, smooth as hell . and have u tried manually to change gears, I have never had a problem before, just cant change gear even in manual.

Hi Rob, what was the recall for? did it relate to transmission?
What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

Rob,

Check your tyre sizes, if they rotated your tyres and the spare happened to be the wrong size(this happened to me) the transmission will not autochange past 4th gear. You get no faults or warnings at all just this symptom.

Had the dealer scratching his head for a couple of hours while he worked through a checklist to isolate it.

Still original tyres, only have 17000km, and the spare is still under the car. Thinking they may have remapped the computer for the transmission. Going in 8 sep (after 500km drive one way) for this fault as well as a rough idle when cold, and all tyre worn out on the inside, even after a wheel alignment.

OK,

But the not changing past 4th is limp home mode for the auto so something is amiss in the land of ZF. With crusie control on the steering wheel via that new rotary coupler ther is a fair chance something may not be right with the coupler or it's fitting.

I have a trusted colleague who works for an auto transmission shop. He seems to think that the ZF transmissions aren't as bulletproof as we all are lead to believe. Last time I saw him, there were two Jags getting new transmissions installed (just after warranty expired). He strongly suggests I ignore the "lifetime sealed" ads and get a fluid and filter change every 100k or so. As some D3's get long in the tooth are there any transmission trends to note?
