| Any German-speaking caravanners? |
|
I've taken a fancy to fitting a pair of Al-ko Octagon shockers to the ole tintent, following a magazine article. I noticed the mountings on the swing-axle ages ago and baulked at the idea of working out length / range / damping force / single/double-action.
But since Al-Ko make them for their chassis - colour-coded for GVW - why not?
UK Al-ko website offers them at £79. A Google search located a UK firm charging £106 (that could be fitted; I didn't look) and a German website seems to be offering them at €31 {is that EACH?}
I need a translator for http://www.anhaengerteileshop.de/p649.html to be sure

DW - Only translates the marketing text, not the important technical stuff which is part of the pictures.
But basically - if you are working on an existing AL-KO chassis then it's a fairly straight forward job - you just need to use a strengthening plate (I presumme it's supplied from the context). If not a AL-KO chassis you'll need to modify (strengthen) the chassis mount beforehand which requires making a fixing and welding - that might be why the increased cost quoted by the UK company. Cheers, MrH - PM'd you (hope TFC not reading ).
The prices all seem to be for the shockers with some sort of pressed steel attachment - although my Alko chassis and suspension look like they could take a shocker without any adapters.
Just trying to avoid the "rip-off Britain" thing....

Why not send an E-mail to AL-KO Germany, in English, giving your chassis/tintent details and ask which model shock and whether it's needs a plate, then you can order then for 31Euros with confidence .

Why not, indeed? I always feel somewhat lazy e-mailing in English, but my efforts in German might well order me something very different...

Unlike the Brits, most German's are pretty good with languages, especially if they work in the technical and Customer Service departments of large companies like AL-KO - if you don't have any luck send me what you want to ask, and I'll translate into German Permagrin by................. TorqTune

Thanks Nikolaus and Thanks Matthias.
The "e-mail in English" plan worked fine. Great reply from Sebastian over there, and I have ordered my shock absorbers.*
Thanks for the help and the offers.
