| Valuations whilst in for a Service |
|
Has anyone else had the experience of having an unsolicited valuation provided on your D3 whilst it is in for a service?
Hartwells offered me £13.5k on my MY06 SE
To me it feels a bit counter productive. My likely response to the valuation is, "on the basis of the valuation provided there is no way I would by another D3 because the deprecation is too great".
BTW there is no way I am going to change at the moment, I think mine is great and don't like the look of the MY 09.

I think I would be insulted with £13.5K for a 2006 SE. They must be having a laugh, given what they would put it on the forecourt for.

I just don't like the tactic.
I know there will have been heavy depreciation but when I am not looking I don't want to be reminded.

The BMW dealerships are telling customers that big engined cars, petrol and diesel are loosing 500 to 1000 per month for the last 3 months.
I'm changing my other car and considering a two/three LR family again! There are some bargains to be had if you're a buyer at the moment- but it is difficult to sell anything.
Trouble is that the dealerships still think they can use their own price guides for the forecourt- until the end of the month when they get desperate and have to ship the cars on to the auctions at a loss
A friend of mine with a Z4 was quoted 3 grand less than he had been six weeks earlier by the same dealer (sytners)
I know they have to shift car and that the dealers have warehouses full of big cars thay cant shift but they are playing the market " well you know how it is at the moment"
I was very tempted by Dr Diesels HSE! "its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

Nothing wrong with a salesman testing the waters, its tough at the moment and he will have targets etc so cant say i blame them for trying.
Just be polite and say no thanks if its not what your looking for. "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

my dodgey leg forces sale- not getting on well with the driving position and the manual gearbox.
10 days driving the Disco3 on holiday with no leg pain then one day of leg pain back in the D3 has clinched it I think!
Still haven't ruled out another Alpina though
Took your advice and test drove a few audis including a RS4 and a S6
there are some bargains out there at the moment!- even for those without the bugdet of "a new HSE plus extras"

I agree with discocuzzy, i think it makes a change to find someone that is at least trying to gee the market up a bit, lets face it, if things carry on the way they are then prices are going to carry on plummeting,at least if more cars start selling, desirability and demand is gonna go up causing dealers to pay more for part exchanges. I think it makes a pleasent change to find a salesman that is at least 'trying' to 'sell' something.
I may be looking at this the wrong way so apologise if it doesnt make sense

I like the idea of a dealer being pro-active and doing stuff like this up to a point.
What I don't like is the bare-faced cheek of basically telling a customer (who probably spent 30-40K there a few years earlier), that their 'investment' has gone down the pan and isn't worth $hit.
Whilst it's good that they're trying to get sales and beat the crush instead of whinging about it, sending a cold letter to a 'valued' customer telling them how much their 'expensive' D3 isn't worth is just wrong.
They could have just pulled you to one side and offered a verbal no-obligation valuation if you were interested instead of doing this.... 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

But lets face it,we all know when we buy these cars that they are going to plummet in value so a salesman telling us this shouldnt shock us. Nobody buys a car like we do as an investment,we buy them because we can and we want to. You never know, one of us might receive one of these valuations and think ' thats more than they were expecting' especially with the likes of the press and media talking the 4x4 market down so much !!
I think its a totally 'ethical' way of soeone trying to earn there pay rather than waiting for a customer to walk in,hold there hands up and ASK if they can buy a car,not enough salesman 'SELL' these days.
This is my opinion and im sticking to it
