| What do you get for jumping a railway crossing red light |
|
This is NOT me!!! Someone I know has been summendsed (is that the right word??) for crossing a barriered railway crossing on a red light. Said person received a letter a couple of months ago asking who was driving, which was duely sent off. The the summends arrived asking income & out goings details. I thought this was a straight £60/3 points matter but obviously not, anyone knows what the penalties are or give me pointers to look this up on the internet???
Cheers

States thats a general traffic light offence (of which this offence would be deemed serious) is £1000 also potential discretionary disqualification. I'm sure there is also a by-law that states if the barriers are down then if you cross you are trespassing as the right to pass has been removed.

I beleive this is more than an endorsable fixed penalty. I think the BTP (British Transport Police), and Network Rail , will prosecute anyone they catch which will mean a court appearence. Duncan

I would say the death penalty if you are unlucky... Some people get by
With a little understanding
Some people get by
With a whole lot more
I don´t know
Why you gotta be so undemanding

I attended a crash where exactly that had happened. The car hit the steam train, derailed it and killed the train driver. I believe the person was disqualified, received a very heavey fine and there was also talk of a prison sentence, but I do not believe this happened in the end. Personally having had to deal with the aftermath of this type of situation on a few occasison I believe the person should go to prison. iit is very dangerous and potentially puts a lot of peoples lives at risk. Tow bar, roof bars, and mud flaps, side steps, tow bar staorage unit.

Not a case of crossing, had either not reacted quickly enough to the lights changing to amber then red or headed off too early when barriers went up. He would never dream of doing it deliberately. Turns out that it was not a camera but was reported by someone (worker or BTP???) so not even definate he did what he is accused of as now his word against theirs. Honda Dog U better DUCK!!!!!

When JC staged that train crash on Top Gear if you look carefully you'll see the loco that hit the car was unmanned and was pushed up to speed by a second loco - running trains into even small hard objects on the line can cause them to de-rail.
That film showed quite clearly the loco front end had almost moved all the way through the (Espace) target on the crossing before the front or rear of the car (where it was longer than the loco was wide), had even started to react to the impact. Cheers

And we are all aware of what a Land Rover can do to a train (or trains)

The train was the smallest narrow gauge public steam train in the world. It was a steam locamotive run by Romney Hythe and dymchurch railway. Th line is only about 6" wide and as such when a car jumped the lights and hit the train it quickly derailed causing the fataility. It was the second one in 18 months and there have been others. Tow bar, roof bars, and mud flaps, side steps, tow bar staorage unit.
