Airbag Warning Light

After a weekend of 4WD in the mud my airbag warning light has come on. The car has been washed and most of the muck removed. It has also been driven another 800 Klms on the highway, even in the rain, but the light remains illuminated.

Any ideas? Shocked

Hi,

I think this was the main sympton of a problem with the rotary coupler in the steering column. Broken wire.

There is a service action "Q045" the Vin range for vehicles affected is LS 5A900071 to LS 6A939921

Model years 05/06

I read about it on the AULRO site.

Better check with you dealer.

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic6845.html and read this thread from the technical side.

All the best

Wayne,

You must have been gripping the steering wheel too hard during the 10 hour bog on Sunday Laughing Laughing

I didn't exactly escape unscathed either - my rear wheel carrier's gas strut had snapped clean into two pieces.

I think I dropped about 35 kgs of mud at Car Lovers Very Happy

Cheers

I had a Airbag Warning light coming on every month or so for about a year before the dealers eventually (after many visits) tracked it down to a faulty sensor under the passenger seat.

Sonny,
That would be the last run up. Im surprised you didnt shake the car apart. Young Ben enjoyed it though.
I guess we sure learnt a lot about recovery!

My $45 car wash went up to $70. But I did get all the bush pin stripes out with Meguiars ScratchX. The car came up really well Very Happy

Mine was a faulty clock spring fixed in 1 hour (air bag light would not go off), but I have been told it can be a faulty seat belt pre-tensioner.

Seems to be a fairly common fault. Will book the vehicle in this week and get it checked. Sad

Definitely a service call. I got a letter regarding replacing the faulty wire and had it replaced under warranty last Friday. It takes a bit over two hours (or so they say).

Well all fixed. Apparently there were 3 faults registered by the computer, which when checked out by the stealer showed no damage and reprogrammed. All is sweet Very Happy

They still have to fix the rotary coupler for you, did dealer say anything about it?. They don't call it a recall but that's what it is as it affects safety (airbag).
Dealer did mine when it was in for service.

No mention of rotary coupler. Unfortunately you dont get to see the mechanic at these large dealer groups. Will go back to them to get a more specific answer. I get the vehicle serviced at Graeme Coopers so will get him to check it over too. Shocked [/img]

Wayne, which dealer looked at it?

Just read your post properly. Dealer may not have looked at what was in the system for your vehicle. If you don't service at a dealer you may not get the TSBs dealt with. There are regular updates to software and TSBs which cover issues you may have. Non LR service means you miss out on lot of this knowledge but non dealers often have more common sense and general experience. The D3 is such a new and complex beast I would suggest getting major services done at a stealers.

I just have an issue of an apprentice working on my vehicle or someone who doesn't give a rats.
maybe my fault and I should get to know the stealer better. Unfortunately, I am time poor and just drop the vehicle off and let them do what they are supposed to do. I know at Coopers they make the effort to come and talk to me and let me know what is going on with the vehicle and they are just down the raod so I can walk there.
