| Radio display black when wearing polarised sunglasses |
|
The radio (standard one in the 08SE) display is black when wearing polarised sunglasses - the cause is simply that the LCD display has been installed 90° out compared to the usual alignment (eg: the LCD in the dash is perfectly clear).
I noticed this when we first received the D3 but never worried too much about it. Yesterday I had a Freelander II as replacement car while the D3 was in for its first service and it too had the same issue. Has anyone else come across this or is it just me? It seems odd that we have so many LCD devices in use (phones, laptops, calculators, radios, the list goes on) which are all obviously built to a standard that allows viewing when wearing polarised glasses - except for Landrover radios
I know it isn't that big a deal but it is a little annoying Does anyone know a solution (other than replacing the radio)?
PS: having had a very brief experience with the new Freelander II I am hoping LR isn't relying on high sales volumes even my wife thought it rubbish

Tilt your head to one side when you look at it
(Bear in mind, LR's are built in a country without this thing you call "sun")

Have the same issue. Annoying, but same on some other cars I have driven. Getting there is half the fun

Please ! every one knows there is only one definition of son, (see we even spell it differently than you). We do have polarised glasses which are fashion accessories to be worn on top of the head not on the nose as you could fall over in the dark.
I did put a pair on once for a laugh while I was in the D3 but couldn't see the dash board never mind about the radio. You talk of things we don't understand!!

My MY06 D3 SE is the same. I suspect they all are. Strange and sad indeed.

On mine both the dash displays and the radio displays are just a bit dark. The reason for the difference between this and other people's experiences, I suspect, is in the plane of polarisation on my particular set of glasses. bobby 'when I nod my head, you hit it' crispbox

I wear Maui Jims nearly all the time when driving - especially good in the rain! If the display looks dark a slight movement sorts it out. DS3 TDV6 HSE

mmm... must be the glasses. I've always worn RayBan's and not had this issue with any LCD display unless you turn it 90 degress and so line up the two filters. Happens on my phone, laptop, iPod etc.
Are Oz glasses extra polarised or are the filters the other way round due to the sun being upside down ?

Even if the device is held at its normal angle ???
Looking at the D3's Message Centre, is it black or readable ?
Maybe my choice of fashionable sun glasses is better ?

Had the problem in a rubbish 407 i had to hire in Sweden recently, but no worries in the D3. If you are helpful and then stop, you get more agro than if you never helped in the first place.

It's black at certain angles but if you move your head a bit you can read it.

From what was reported today, "Melbourne in the middle of winter received more sunshine than did London in August", we need dark sunnies here more than our UK compatriots. I have two cars which have this effect. Solved it by getting good non-polarized sunnies (in my case, I got glacier climbing glasses while in The States (a glacier being like the West Aust salt pans). Problem solved and there is definitely no danger of my adult children taking my dorky sunnies Jim Dowell

Most Raybans aren't polarized, in fact most sunglasses in the UK aren't. It is usually fishing/water sports glasses that are. DS3 TDV6 HSE
