Dashmount.co.uk make a very small and strong bracket for the D3, all you need to do is find the mount or just velcro it. Look in my Gallery, I fitted my Parrot handfree kit with one of these, just remove the trim and it srews in with the stereo torque screws. PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

Nope, cos i fitted mine lower down than yours, I saw yours in the Gallery. Mine is on my Gallery, opted to go low as the Parrot is'nt removable and wanted it lower so the ASBO, cider drinking, find it harder to see.
Funny on Dashmount.co.uk site shows it in your place, but needs the hole made bigger, fit it lower like mine and no mods needed.
By far still a great little bracket, and very strong PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

M8 easiest solution is get a 5 in 1 FM transmitter/charger/holder which will plug straight into left hand power socket on centre console & will give you connectivity to incar audio and keep the little blighter powered up. I have had one in my D3 for ipod & Iphone for 2 yrs+ and it works a dream,as nano is lighter it should sit well without any hassle. It also has a USB connector & 3mm jack input so other devices can be plugged into it. Best of all it does not cost a packet!!!.
Give it a go - everything to gain, little money to lose(if at all!!!)

I bouight one for my iphone & I needed to drill the bottom hole out a bit more to fit over the plastic lug. Most annoying. Also needed a longer screw!!!
i installed teh same dash mount (see my gallery) no drilling or longer screw required
does need a little bend to make the H trim fit snug If at first you don't succeed

I made this mount up, it uses the Belkin connector, the i pod one is better I would think. This is stuck with the double sided number plate tape to a piece of ally 75mm x 20mm painted black (the hole was for a previous mount), it is screw into the plastic but cannot be seen as it's hidden behind the pen tray.
The Nano is only held on the the connector, but rest against the upright of the mount allowing the track change etc to be pressed
If you want to see more I'll take some pictures in the light tomorrow. Silver TDV6 S with sat nav, PTI and Moosed up a bit

You could get one of these from dashmount and add it to the D3 bracket - i did something similar years ago with a bracket from them for a pda in my old V70 volvo
