18" BFG AT's on a 08MY

Has anyone got 18" BF Goodrich AT's fitted to a 2008 D3?
Any rubbing?
I am toying with the idea of fitting 265/65's - any thoughts.
IAN.

Been looking into this loads in the last few days.
265/65 18 BFG At's are what i want for mine but there seems to be problems with rubbing on some models depending on equipment fitted and loss of fuel economy.
After reading just about every post on here, its looking like standard size Grabber AT2 (255/60 18 ) is the way to go, and that is a big thing for me as i am a certified BFG AT nut that puts them on everything. The Grabber may not last as long as the BFG but it is cheaper, and unless you are really using the BFG's to the extremes they were made for the slightly weaker sidewalls of the Grabber are not a problem.
Hope this helps.
There will no doubt be some more opions comming.

Ran BFG on my D2, which worked well with a lot of track work & occasionally pulling a fully weighted trailer.
Was getting 40k to 50K miles out of them, without punctures - which is my biggest problem.
I don't think the Generals will do as well. What sort of price have you been quoted for the BFG's?

Having done a lot of serious offroading in my life with a number of tyres I rate the AT2's as the best ATs I've fitted. I won't touch BFG again, I have some major issues with the rubber compounds and side walls are TOO stiff for serious offroading. On the black stuff they haven't the bite when things get wet.
IMO and other tyre people, tyres that give good life on the black stuff are usually the worst in braking tests and chip resistance offroad.
I have never kept a set of offroad tyres for more than about 25,000 kms.
I'm currently looking at trading up to a set of MTRs for serious offroad work. I can't find a really grippy MT style 18" tyre. I only use my D3 as an offroader otherwise it sits in the garage.

Running BFG's on 55 plate SE. No problems with rubbing and excellent pulling trailers out my muddy field.

Thanks Bobby, from what I can make out, they say it is a minor problem on '07/'08 models. I will probably just go out and buy a set and try!!

I ran BFG ATs on a previous vehicle and was really pleased with them, but as they didn't do the correct size/load rating for the D3, I opted for the Grabber AT2s. They're just as good in all departments. Thumbs Up

Wiff,

I am up north this morning will let you know later on load ratings etc, as regards rubbing Neutral I don't know for sure, I have had one customer say "only just" and another who is not an off-road boy tell me "no", do want to be a guinnie pig ?

My choice would still be AT2.

I got a set of BFG 17's from Ken.
From what I gather he reckoned they rubbed a little bit in extremes.
Seemingly it's down to a new extended part of the chassis that protrudes into the wheelwell on later models.
Not had a chance to look at the newer model and compare it against mine.
Also not tried the BFG's on mine cos I've gone with the MTR's.
But I am going to fit just to try out clearance before selling.
slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

The 265/65x18 BFGoodrich AT KO has a load rating of 122R, 122 is 1500kg and the R represents a max speed of 105mph.

Hope this helps.

BFG's on 2008 D3

I had the dealer fit BFG 265x65x18 AT KO's from new on my TDV6 SE. They've now done 20,000K's and very pleased. In off-road height there is absolutely no rubbing. In onroad (normal) height, full LH lock has the LH front tyre just touch the inside chassis member. This did cause me a problem when I had the wiring loom (which is very close) drop for some reason and the tyre then snagged the loom and cut thru a few of the wires. I subsequently had this repaired by an auto electician, the loom slightly relocated and firmly tied out of the way and no further problem.

I also found that I can't hit washaways too hard in standard height as the rear tyres will scrape slightly on the inside of the rear wheel wells - not an issue (I just have to go a little slower thru them than I was used to in my 60mm raised Pajero).

The upside - 20mm more clearance, to take standard height to 205mm, significantly better sand performance when 'aired down', great mud and rock shelf performance and 20,000K's with very little apparent wear. Trade-off is a bit more noise (minimal), but I think the ride is slightly less harsh with the higher profile.

Cheer,
Martin
